(01) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title:  Senior Researcher in Satellite Systems

We have a vacancy for a senior researcher to contribute to externally funded projects at the Department of engineering cybernetics at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in Trondheim.

The SmallSatLab at NTNU conducts research on satellite systems, including payload development, mission design, system engineering and integration, satellite control and operations, data analysis and algorithm development for a wide range of applications in remote sensing, data communication and localization. The lab currently operates two own satellites – the HYPSO-1 and -2 – while several new concepts and payloads are under development for new satellite missions. Research is currently centered around hyperspectral imaging (instruments, data processing algorithms and applications), satellite-based maritime surveillance and security, and integrated systems-of-systems where small satellites interact closely with autonomous systems, drones and other assets and data sources for advanced observation missions.

The researcher will conduct research in externally funded projects in the areas mentioned above, and assist the SmallSatLab with developing such projects. We are looking for candidates that have a broad interest, competence and experience in the field of small satellite systems, and with expertise in one or more of the following areas: Embedded systems hardware and software; system engineering; system integration and testing; navigation and localization; hyperspectral imaging and systems; data processing; maritime surveillance. The researcher will be a key resource in project teams where he or she will interact with other researchers, industry and government agencies.

Deadline : 7th June 2026

(02) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc summary/title: Postdoctoral Fellowship in Artificial Intelligence for Longitudinal Echocardiographic Image Analysi

Cardiovascular diseases are highly heterogeneous, and current clinical classifications often fail to capture the underlying complexity. Echocardiography is the primary imaging modality in cardiac care and provides rich, high‑resolution information on cardiac structure and function. However, routine workflows typically extract only a fraction of the available information, and many quantitative parameters remain underutilized or inconsistently recorded. As a result, large-scale imaging datasets contain substantial latent diagnostic and prognostic information that is currently not leveraged in clinical practice. Advances in artificial intelligence now enable automated and standardized echocardiographic measurements with high accuracy and reproducibility, including the ability to re‑analyze entire imaging archives while accounting for image quality and operator variability. These methods create new opportunities for large-scale, data‑driven phenotyping and improved characterization of disease mechanisms and progression.

The postdoctoral project focuses on development of advanced AI methods for longitudinal and multimodal analysis of echocardiographic data, integrating imaging features with clinical metadata and outcomes. We have access to a unique large-scale dataset comprising more than 150,000 patients with corresponding metadata and follow‑up information, enabling robust modeling of disease trajectories and risk profiles. By exploiting these resources, we seek to generate deeper insights into cardiac disease complexity, improve risk stratification, and enhance the clinical utility of echocardiography in everyday patient care.

(03) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Fellow in Microbiome Gene Transfer

With this exciting, fully funded 3-year postdoctoral fellowship, we aim to achieve breakthrough advances in tracking gene spreading in microbiomes and unravel its role in the emergence of new metabolic properties and phenotypes.

The MiGeneX project will implement microbiome science and engineering principles and develop innovative molecular and bioimaging methods for tracking the transfer and utilisation of genetic materials across microbial populations, from controlled synthetic co-cultures to complex communities. While addressing fundamental research questions at the microbial community level, the research will generate impactful results for microbial ecology, antimicrobial resistance, and related fields of microbial importance.

The position requires a high level of scientific creativity and a combined wet-lab and dry-lab skill set to interrogate environmental and health-associated microbiomes. The successful candidate will explore genetic, metabolic, and phenotypic traits at high resolution in microbial consortia, applying approaches from microbial community engineering, systems microbiology, synthetic biology, bioinformatics, and computational biology.

You will join the research group of Prof. David Weissbrodt within the Microbial Biotechnology division at IBT. The position offers extensive opportunities for cross-disciplinary collaboration within the division and department, and with partner units in Biology, Clinical and Molecular Medicine, and beyond. Strong connections to NTNU’s Strategic Research Areas in Health & Life Science and Ocean & Coast further enhance the collaborative environment.

Our laboratories are equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure, methodologies and techniques for experimental, analytical, and computational research in microbiome science and microbial biotechnology. This includes advanced capabilities in microbiology, molecular biology, biochemistry, bioimaging, microbial cultivation, bioprocess engineering, analytical chemistry, mass spectrometry, multi-omics, bioinformatics, and microbial models.

About NTNU- Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Norway- Official Website

The Norwegian University of Science and Technology  is a public research university in Norway with the main campus in Trondheim and smaller campuses in Gjøvik and Ålesund. The largest university in Norway, NTNU has over 8,000 employees and over 40,000 students. NTNU in its current form was established by the King-in-Council in 1996 by the merger of the former University of Trondheim and other university-level institutions, with roots dating back to 1760, and has later also incorporated some former university colleges. NTNU is consistently ranked in the top one percentage among the world’s universities, usually in the 101–500 range depending on ranking.

NTNU has the main national responsibility for education and research in engineering and technology, and is the successor of Norway’s preeminent engineering university, the Norwegian Institute of Technology (NTH), established by Parliament in 1910 as Norway’s national engineering university. In addition to engineering and natural sciences, the university offers higher education in other academic disciplines ranging from medicine, psychology, social sciences, the arts, teacher education, architecture and fine art. NTNU is well known for its close collaboration with industry, and particularly with its R&D partner SINTEF, which provided it with the biggest industrial link among all the technical universities in the world. The university’s academics include three Nobel laureates in medicine, Edvard Moser, May-Britt Moser and John O’Keefe.
