(06) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc Position in Immunomodulatory self-assembling peptide-based biomaterials

This project aims to develop new injectable self-assembling peptides (SAPs) biomaterials that simultaneously: i) possess improved adhesion to local tissues in vivo, ii) exhibit controlled degradation matching the desired regeneration outcome, and iii) allow tissue regeneration by enabling controlled immune cells invasion and progression of inflammation from neighbouring tissues. Following injury, inflammation is the trigger of tissue repair, however, chronic inflammation is detrimental. The persistent inflammatory nature of tendinopathy contributes to localized tissue damage, often developing to a low-grade chronic inflammation with recurring tears. The main goal of this position is development of an innovative therapeutic strategy utilizing temporally modulating SAPs biomaterials to guide healthy regeneration of tendon tissues via modulation of macrophage response.

(08) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in environmental medicine

The research areas of CPPEM span from pharmacoepidemiology to clinical studies, and cell-based basic pharmacology and environmental medicine. Collectively, CPPEM has a strong background in exposure to environmental chemicals, pharmacoepidemiology, pharmacogenetics, pharmacokinetics, drug-drug interactions, and therapeutic drug monitoring. Specifically, the translational pharmacology group aims to understand variability in drug toxicity, drug metabolism and drug transport. Examples of this include cell-based models such as induced-pluripotent stem cells, primary human hepatocytes, and clinical studies. The pharmacoepidemiological research group utilizes the world-class Danish registries as well as international data sources to assess pharmacological questions in large populations. The environmental medicine group studies the impact of early life exposures to environmental chemicals. In particular PFAS is a focus area, with studies of the adverse health effects of exposure, biomonitoring and advising national and international authorities. The analytical chemistry laboratory analyzes concentrations of drugs or environmental chemicals in various matrices.

In the Environmental Medicine group we are looking for a post doc funded by Novo Nordic Foundation and ERC advanced grant. The projects focus on the Odense Child Cohort and study the impact of early life exposures to environmental chemicals. Especially PFAS and their adverse effects on maternal and child health (e.g. the brain, immune, metabolic and reproductive system). In addition, we aim to identify toxicity of short PFAS including trifluoroacetic acid, widely used but considered less toxic due to their short half-life.

We are seeking a candidate with a PhD in medicine, pharmacology, public health, or a related discipline. Work within environmental medicine is an advance, and epidemiological and statistical skills are essential. Motivation, curiosity, and a strong drive to excel in environmental research are very important. Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English is a requirement. The position includes independent scientific writing, clinical project leading, and supervision of students. You should be interested in contributing both to the scientific armamentarium in our department and to our collegial culture. It is also expected that the post doc contributes to additional fundraising for the projects as well as research collaborations and the continuation of the Odense Child Cohort, and takes on teaching responsibilities within the department. You will, in your daily work, refer to Professor Tina Kold Jensen, but also engage in a very active collaboration with the full research group.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Assistant for the HADAL Center at SDU

The HADAL Center at Department of Biology at SDU invites applications for a position as research assistant. The position is available for two years from around the 1st of September 2026.

The HADAL center explores the diversity of microbial life and the dynamics of elemental cycling in hadal trenches with focus material transport and deposition, transformation and decomposition of organic matter microbial ecology, community composition, biogeochemical processing.

The research assistant will work on exploring the role of bacteriophages in elemental cycling in hadal environments with emphasis on prophages and their AMGs, using a combination of bioinformatic and experimental approaches. This will include 1) analyzing AMGs from lytic and temperate phages and mapping their associations to environmental conditions using metagenomic data. 2) identifying phage-host systems from metagenomic data for in silico evaluation of the role of AMGs in phage-host interactions. 3) investigating trade-offs of lysogeny for the host by quantifying the metabolic contribution and regulation of prophage-encoded AMGs in benthic element cycling using experimental approaches with phage-host systems in cultivation.

The work will therefore entail a combination of bioinformatic approaches (analysis of large metagenomic and genomic dataset), microbiological analyses (phage and host Isolation, cultivations, and characterization) and molecular approaches (e.g. Real-Time PCR and genomic sequencing), in association with laboratory experiments.

We seek a candidate with a M.Sc. degree in marine microbiology and viral ecology, strong experience in experimental work with marine microbiology and bioinformatic skills.
