(01) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: PhD Student/ Postdoc Position in Meta-Science
This role focuses on the use of RegCheck (regcheck.app), a tool that compares study registrations against the papers reporting them to identify deviations from the planned research. RegCheck’s core infrastructure is built and an initial evaluation of its accuracy is currently underway (for more information on RegCheck, please see our preprint. The selected candidate will help develop, test, and extend RegCheck. Depending on your interests and strengths, this could mean conducting field studies that involve integrating RegCheck into peer-review workflows (e.g., at journals), developing new extensions to the existing infrastructure, or a combination of both.
Deadline : July 31, 2026
(02) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position
Postdoc summary/title: Postdoc position Space Research and Planetary Sciences / Astronomical Institute
The position is funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation project “Characterisation of Near Earth Asteroid Apophis by exploitation of RAMSES mission data”, a joint project of the Division of Space Research and Planetary Sciences (Physics Institute) and the Astronomical Institute of the University of Bern.
The RAMSES mission will rendezvous with the near-Earth asteroid (99942) Apophis in 2029 and observe its extremely close flyby of Earth; an event that occurs only once every thousand years. This unique natural experiment will provide unprecedented insight into how tidal forces can reshape an asteroid’s surface and internal structure. The University of Bern plays a major role in RAMSES through the CHANCES imaging system, which will deliver high-resolution multispectral observations of Apophis. These data will be combined with other instrument data, laboratory experiments, and advanced numerical modeling to build a comprehensive understanding of the asteroid.
This postdoctoral project focuses on developing a numerical Apophis Reference Model (ARM), a comprehensive and consistent framework that defines the asteroid’s coordinates system, rotation state, global shape, surface properties, interior mass distribution, and key surface features. This model serves as a common reference for the entire project.
A central task is to integrate and harmonize results from multiple work packages and methodologies by projecting observational and simulation data onto and into the ARM. This includes mapping photometric observations and impact simulations to better constrain surface and subsurface properties, defining surface features for precise rotation modeling, and analyzing reflectance data to support instrument performance studies. The project also investigates changes in Apophis’s surface, interior, shape, and rotation caused by its close encounter with Earth, providing key insights into its physical structure and evolution. The postdoc will join a dynamic, interdisciplinary team including three PhD students, a postdoctoral researcher, and a software engineer, collaborating on the project at the Division of Space Research and Planetary Sciences and the Astronomical Institute at the University of Bern.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc: Terrestrial ecosystem modelling
- Integrate a hydraulics-explicit representation of photosynthesis, transpiration, and their acclimation (P-hydro) into a vegetation demography model (BiomeEP).
- Break new ground in using eco-evolutionary optimality principles for simulating tree hydraulic and architectural trait acclimation.
- Conduct methods development for model-data integration on the basis of data from ecosystem manipulation experiments, sap flow measurements, and others.
- Assess model performance for predicting trait distributions, community compositions, ecosystem fluxes, and forest structures along aridity gradients.
- Conduct past-to-future simulations, separating effects of long-term trends in VPD, CO2, tree community shifts, and acclimation.
- Build on and integrate into the UP-SCALE project, collaborating closely with project partners, and co-supervising the two PhD students funded through the project.
- Reliable and reusable code development, active participation and regular exchange as a group member based in Bern, presentations at national and international conferences, publication of your research emerging from this project in peer-reviewed scientific journals.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: PostDoc in exoplanet atmospheres at the University of Bern
The Exo-Neptune census, funded by SNSF for 5 years, also includes PhD students working on both the detection of new Neptune-like exoplanets in photometric timeseries, and their bulk characterisation with space- and ground-based facilities such as CHEOPS, HARPS, HARPS-N, ESPRESSO, etc. Additionally, PD Dr. Daniel Kitzmann & Prof. Brice-Olivier Demory and their respective groups at Bern provide key expertise on atmospheric observations and retrievals, while Professors Yann Alibert & Christoph Mordasini bring significant expertise in theoretical modelling of interior structures & planetary evolution. The group is also well-linked with ongoing projects at the observatory of Geneva and ETH Zurich. The successful PostDoc would have the opportunity to interact closely with these respective groups.
Deadline : August 31st 2026.
