(02) Postdoctoral Position

Postdoctoral position summary/title:  The project aims to translate basic knowledge from the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana to practical applications on edible plants. We will increase the knowledge on Arabidopsis accessions and kale varieties and their performance under contrasting light regimes, and identify the underlying gene regulatory networks. With this we aim to develop means for non-invasive biotechnological manipulation of foliar chemical composition and growth of kale varieties in domestic table gardens.

Deadline of Postdoc Position: 20 March 2021

(03) Postdoctoral Position

Postdoctoral position summary/title: The new researcher will play a leading role in launching a large patient-derived organoid initiative establishing and characterizing individual tumor models. A large number of tumors from multiple gastrointestinal cancer types will undergo comprehensive profiling, and the organoids are used to predict clinical treatment response. Predictive and prognostic liquid biopsy -based biomarkers such as circulating tumor DNA are studied in clinically relevant settings, such as a large randomized controlled trial utilizing the translational precision tools in genuine frameworks of care. Large WES, WGS, RNA-seq, ctDNA, tumor microenvironment and drug response datasets are created and integrated with clinical information.

(04) Postdoctoral Position

Postdoctoral position summary/title: POST DOCTORAL RESEARCHER POSITION in the field of micrometeorology and biogeochemical cycles starting preferably in April 2021 or as soon as possible for 16 months employment contract. The subject is closely related to carbon cycling in boreal peatlands. The post doctoral researcher will focus on greenhouse gas (GHG) exchange data measured by the eddy covariance, collected from several northern peatlands to study the responses of ecosystems to contrasting years, and spatially extrapolate the results by means of remote sensing data.

(05) Postdoctoral Position

Postdoctoral position summary/title: POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER IN TRANSLATIONAL IMMUNO-ONCOLOGY.

The candidate will join a collaborative, multi-disciplinary immuno-oncology project that seeks new ways to sensitize breast cancer to immune checkpoint inhibitors via synthetic lethal and immunogenic cell death concepts, which are integrated with computational predictions. One key element in this approach is a novel method, developed in the Klefström lab, to grow 3D cultures of intact fragments of patient-derived tissue (Patient-Derived Explant Cultures; PDECs).

(06) Postdoctoral Position

Postdoctoral position summary/title: The group is seeking for dedicated and enthusiastic post-doctoral fellows and/or PhD-students to join projects that focus on: 1). Understanding the mechanisms by which contractile, mechanosensitive actomyosin bundles assemble in human cells, and 2). Elucidating functions of the actin cytoskeletons in evolutionarily distant pathogenic unicellular parasites. The post-doctoral applicants should hold PhD in cell biology, biochemistry, or a related field. Strong expertise in protein biochemistry, structural biology, or cell biology is highly beneficial

(07) Postdoctoral Position

Postdoctoral position summary/title:  POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER in computational biochemistry and biophysics.

The selected candidate will be working on the structure and mechanism of respiratory complexes, and their interplay with the lipid/solvent environment. The multi-scale approaches that will be used to study these systems include (but not limited to) classical atomistic/coarse-grained molecular dynamics (MD) simulations and quantum chemical methods, their hybrid variants, etc.

(08) Postdoctoral Position

Postdoctoral position summary/title:  POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER in human geography, urban studies, spatial planning or a related field.

The postdoctoral researcher will work on the project RE:URBIA (2020–2022), that is part of the Lähiöohjelma research program, funded by the Ministry of Environment/ARA. The RE:URBIA project forcuses on the current state and development potential of the Finnish suburban housing estates of 1960s’ and 70s’, and facilitate new visions and goals for their development. The project offers a multidisciplinary basis to understand the multidimensional processes of segregation that continue to contribute to the differentiation of the social life and access to services and residential decisions in cities, leading to unequal opportunities.

(10) Postdoctoral Position

Postdoctoral position summary/title:  The HiLIFE – Institute of Biotechnology, Varjosalo laboratory of Molecular Systems Biology / Pathology, invites applications for a POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER.

The Varjosalo lab has a longstanding interest in the global and comprehensive understanding of how key cellular signaling molecules; protein kinases, protein phosphatases and transcription factors mediate their signaling potential and how the signaling is changed in diseases in the immunology and oncology axis, and more recently Covid-19. For this purpose, we have developed experimental and computational methods to identify the protein-interactions formed by these signaling molecules. Additionally, we employ quantitative mass spectrometry -based proteomics to assess the protein abundance changes, as well as phosphorylation status of the tissues/cells.

About The University of Helsinki

The University of Helsinki is a university located in Helsinki, Finland since 1829, but founded in the city of Turku (in Swedish Åbo) in 1640 as the Royal Academy of Åbo, at that time part of the Swedish Empire. It is the oldest and largest university in Finland with the widest range of disciplines available. In 2018, around 31,200 students were enrolled in the degree programs of the university spread across 11 faculties and 11 research institutes.

As of 1 August 2005, the university complies with the harmonized structure of the Europe-wide Bologna Process and offers Bachelor, Master, Licenciate, and Doctoral degrees. Admission to degree programmes is usually determined by entrance examinations, in the case of bachelor’s degrees, and by prior degree results, in the case of master and postgraduate degrees. Entrance is particularly selective (circa 15% of the yearly applicants are admitted). It has been ranked a top 100 university in the world according to the 2016 ARWU, QS and THE rankings.

The university is bilingual, with teaching by law provided both in Finnish and Swedish. Since Swedish, albeit an official language of Finland, is a minority language, Finnish is by far the dominating language at the university. Teaching in English is extensive throughout the university at Master, Licentiate, and Doctoral levels, making it a de facto third language of instruction.
