IIB conducts multidisciplinary research on the role of infections and immunity in carcinogenesis to inform efforts to reduce the burden of cancer. Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: GENETICS OF PRIMARY IMMUNODEFICIENCIES
The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) conducts and supports a global program of research to better understand, treat, and ultimately prevent infectious, immunologic, and allergic diseases. The Laboratory of Clinical Immunology and Microbiology (LCIM) within the NIAID Division of Intramural Research (DIR) is seeking candidates for a postdoctoral fellow position within the Immune Deficiency Genetics Section (IDGS). Research at IDGS is mainly focused on defining the molecular and cellular bases of novel forms of human inborn errors of immunity; understanding the mechanisms underlying manifestations of immune dysregulation in patients with various forms of combined immune deficiency; and developing novel approaches to correct these disorders. Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: CALCIUM SIGNALING & REGULATION OF CELL FUNCTION
Postdoctoral position is currently available in the Secretory Physiology Section, NIDCR, NIH, to study the molecular mechanisms underlying calcium signaling, with a specific focus on the assembly of STIM/Orai channel complex. The current project aims to identify and characterize the molecular components that regulate STIM protein clustering in the ER-plasma membrane junctions. We use a variety of molecular and imaging approaches, together with genetic manipulation of cells and molecular simulation of STIM protein dynamics. There will also be an opportunity to work on a second project that examines the role of oxidative stress on cellular Ca2+ signaling mechanisms and their contribution to disease and dysfunction.

Current projects include antibody discovery, optimization, and translation for use as passive prevention against malaria. In addition, a critical goal of the Malaria Unit is the generation of a circumsporozoite protein-based vaccine. Our vaccine efforts span from antigen design and optimization to immunogenicity and efficacy testing of candidates using animal models. The ultimate goal of the Malaria Unit is the clinical translation of antibody and vaccine candidates against malaria.
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: FLAVIVIRUSES & VECTOR BIOLOGY
A postdoctoral position is available in the Transition Program in Clinical Research Unit, Laboratory of Malaria and Vector Research, NIH, to investigate how human B and T-cell immune responses to Aedes spp mosquito salivary proteins impact dengue virus infection. Our lab is in the unique position at the interface between clinical and basic research by maintaining laboratories in Rockville, Maryland and Phnom Penh, Cambodia. We aim to understand the vector determinants of disease transmission and dynamics in flavivirus-endemic Cambodia where we maintain clinical field sites in local hospitals. Post-doctoral fellows are expected to benefit from both learning the inner workings of clinical research in disease-endemic settings with access to the latest tools to help drive their hypotheses. We highlight access to already collected samples from our extensive cohort of mosquito-bitten and dengue-experienced subjects. The starting date for this position is negotiable and the position will be based in Rockville, Maryland with the option for field research in Cambodia.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: MOLECULAR & CELLULAR ETIOLOGY OF RARE DISEASES (BASIC AND TRANSLATIONAL)
A postdoctoral position is available in the Section on Molecular Dysmorphology of Dr. Forbes Porter at the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, NIH. This research group studies basic, translational and clinical aspects of genetic disorders that impair cholesterol homeostasis. This Section primarily works on Smith-Lemli-Opitz syndrome (SLOS), Niemann-Pick Disease type C (NPC) and Battens Disease (NCL3). SLOS is a malformation/cognitive impairment syndrome due to an inborn error of cholesterol synthesis and both NPC and NCL3 are neurodegenerative lysosomal storage disorders. This Section integrates basic biological studies with clinical research in order to develop and test potential therapies.
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: NEURODEVELOPMENTAL CONDITIONS ASSOCIATED WITH RARE GENETIC DISORDERS
The Neurodevelopmental and Behavioral Phenotyping Service provides wraparound services in the development and implementation of developmental psychological assessment batteries for deep behavioral phenotyping, and validates, improves, and creates methods for phenotyping of individuals with a range of neurodevelopmental conditions, including those with severe to profound intellectual disability. The Fellow will focus on projects which are of mutual scientific interest and collaboration between the NBPS, NIMH, and NICHD, including analysis of data from neurometabolic syndromes such as Niemann-Pick Disease, Smith-Lemli Opitz Syndrome, Creatine Transport Deficiency, and Batten Disease, among others. Fellow will work closely with the NBPS senior statistician on the analysis of behavioral data from studies of rare conditions associated with ID and/or ASD. Fellow will independently conduct basic analyses of behavioral data and will collaborate with the senior statistician and other members of the IRP to implement innovative analytic approaches.

A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Han-Yu Shih at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, MD. Shih lab aims to understand the mechanisms that precisely regulate gene expression in lymphoid cells through multidisciplinary genomic approaches, including but not limited to scRNA-seq, scATAC-seq, ChIP-seq and Hi-C. Lymphoid cells communicate the perturbation of homeostasis by production of cytokines, dysregulation of which results in neural and ocular inflammation in infectious, autoimmune and neurodegenerative diseases. The candidates will investigate immunoregulation of neuroinflammation using “omic” approaches, with the ultimate goal for identifying potential therapeutic targets.

A Postdoctoral Fellow position is available immediately in the Laboratory of Molecular Signaling, National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), National Institutes of Health (NIH), in Rockville, Maryland. Our laboratory studies the role of lipid mediators in neurodevelopment and neuroprotection in in vitro as well as in vivo settings. We are currently investigating the signaling mechanisms and transcriptional activities of an adhesion G-protein coupled receptor GPR110 and its biological and physiological implication using human iPSC and transgenic/knockout animal models. This work will provide insight for future development of drugs for the prevention and treatment of diseases that are caused by aberrant receptor signaling. The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), a major component of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Department of Health and Human Services has an opening for an Epigenetics & Systems Biology postdoctoral researcher to study immune memory, cellular differentiation, and pathological conditions using genomics, epigenomics and systems biology approaches. Our laboratory has developed the ChIP-Seq, MNase-Seq, single-cell DNase-seq, scMNase-seq, ACT-seq, scChIC-seq, and TrAC-looping techniques to analyze genome-wide distribution of chromatin modifications and DNA-binding factors (Cell, 2007; Cell, 2008; Cell 2009; Cell 2012; Nature 2015; Nature Methods 2018; Nature 2018). Using these powerful techniques, we are studying the contribution of two-dimensional and three-dimensional nuclear structure in cells. Future studies will investigate the function and regulation of three-dimensional nuclear structure in normal development and diseases at a single-cell resolution. The incumbent will focus on bench work or computation work or both depending on previous training and expertise. Opportunities for extensive collaborations with the research communities are available.

The Social and Behavioral Sciences Branch (SBSB) is an intramural research program within the Division of Intramural Population Health Research at the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development. We are seeking a recently graduated student who is highly motivated and interested in the development and maturation of brain circuits underlying primate (marmoset) social, emotional and cognitive behavior. Studies will have a strong behavioral emphasis and will include: 1) the precise developmental characterization of circuit neuroanatomy using viruses, 2) the careful measurement of the abnormal development of cognitive and social behaviors, and 3) temporary in vivo interference of selective pathways using cell-type specific suppression or stimulation using genetically encoded agents. Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: EPIGENETICS
Research efforts in the Thoracic Epigenetics Lab led by Dr. David Schrump, Chief, Thoracic Surgery Branch are focused on the elucidation of epigenetic mechanisms regulating gene expression in thoracic malignancies and utilize a wide range of cell culture and PDX assays, as well as correlative experiments using surgical specimens. Currently, major efforts are centered on the use of induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) models to interrogate mechanisms of pluripotency in lung and esophageal cancers and malignant pleural mesotheliomas in order to identify novel therapeutic targets in cancer stem cells from these neoplasms. Results of our laboratory investigations are directly translated to novel clinical trials in an effort to improve diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of thoracic malignancies that collectively kill more than 2 million people worldwide each year.
