Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc position: Thin-film UVC light-emitters
The Photonics Laboratory at the Department of Microtechnology and Nanoscience (MC2), with about 35 researchers, is working on optoelectronics, ultrafast optics and fiber optical communication. We have a strong research focus on blue and ultraviolet emitting vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs), where we have the expertise and infrastructure that covers most parts in VCSEL development, i.e. design and simulation, laser fabrication, and material/device characterization. More recently we have expanded our research to also include thin-film flip-chip light emitting diodes (LEDs) and other types of surface-emitting lasers. We have developed a unique thin-film lift-off process for AlGaN-materials based on electrochemical etching. This has enabled us to demonstrate thin-film flip-chip UVB LEDs and the shortest emission wavelength at the time from an optically pumped VCSEL at 310 nm, the latter by combining an AlGaN-cavity with high-quality dielectric mirrors. We are now expanding our team to realize UVC light-emitters based on our thin-film technology, including both thin-film flip-chip LEDs and VCSELs.
