(01) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Fellow
Background and experience in neural networks (NN), reinforcement learning (RL), simulation and programming in Robot Operating Systems (ROS), and knowledge of marine systems are strong assets. The candidate will conduct research on an unmanned surface vehicle (USV), specifically on the guidance, navigation and control unit with path planning, fault detection, and intelligent control modules. The research on the intelligent control methods includes NN and RL based method as well as comparisons with model-based control. The research will develop and build upon tools from Gazebo simulation in ROS for the simulation environment. The research will involve extensive experimental studies on the USV prototype and docking station available in the industry partner’s location. In-water trials and implementations of the overall USV and docking system under different weather conditions will be carried out to improve the stability, robustness, and reliability of the developed unit.
Deadline : 05/20/2022

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Fellow: Ocean, Economy, Livelihoods
This is a one-year post-doctoral opportunity to support Dr. Sherry Pictou, supervisor, in a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair research program in Indigenous Governance with a focus on gender roles in Indigenous Ocean/water governance, supported by the Ocean, Economy and Livelihood projects in the Nippon Foundation Ocean Nexus Program. The aim of this position is making a significant contribution to Indigenous Ocean/Water Governance (aquatic and marine). This will be achieved by applying an Indigenous gender lens in ocean and water governance. The focus will include Mi’kmaw/Indigenous ocean/water governance from ancestral to current times. This fellowship provides the opportunity to work on the links between Indigenous knowledge and rights, environmental social science and policy, applying academic research and theory to support Indigenous communities, and Indigenous women and gender diverse persons in particular, both in Canada and globally. In addition, the research fellow will assist in engaging national and global policy makers to ensure Indigenous local socioeconomic contexts are reflected in Ocean/water governance.

The university is a member of the U15, a group of research-intensive universities in Canada.
Dalhousie was established as a nonsectarian college in 1818 by the eponymous Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia, George Ramsay, 9th Earl of Dalhousie. The college did not hold its first class until 1838, until then operating sporadically due to financial difficulties.
