The project will focus on how the brain relies on different types of information to represent space depending on experience, by taking advantage of the state-of-the-art virtual reality techniques that has been recently developed. The post-holder will contribute to cutting-edge neuroscience research, and collaborate with computational neuroscientists within and outside the UK. Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Research Assistant
You will work with the team of developers of the UK flagship molecular dynamics simulation project, DL_POLY. The team are based at Queen Mary University of London and Daresbury Laboratory STFC. You will advance the project by incorporating a list of important physical properties into the code to enable on-the-fly calculations, addressing the need for very large length and energy scale simulations. As a Research Software Engineer, you will also use HPC optimisation tools and best practices to enhance the code I/O and maximise the project performance on HPC architectures as well as increase its portability and usability. Your role will also include documentation, training and dissemination activities as well as applying the new project enhancements to the team’s research lines.

(03) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Research Assistant (PNU)
This post is for an enthusiastic and proactive Postdoctoral Research Assistant to join the Preventive Neurology Unit (PNU). The postholder will work on generating real-world evidence for the diagnostic value of a novel artificial intelligence technology for predicting the development of dementia in patients attending memory clinics with mild cognitive impairment using clinical and brain imaging data. This post is funded for 3 years by a grant from NIHR. The successful candidate will identify and recruit participants, and assist with transfer and curation of data. They will be responsible for taking a lead on deploying artificial intelligence software at QMUL for image pre-processing and analysis with support from the commercial partner (AINOSTICS Ltd), and for evaluating the diagnostic performance of the technology. The postholder will have the opportunity to present and publish results from the study.

This position is within the ARCIDUCA project, based on a human-in-the-loop paradigm in which CAs simultaneously improve their own performance and generate training data through interaction. A key hypothesis is that the most effective way to motivate sufficiently many players is by embedding such interactions in games such as Minecraft.

The Nizetic lab (https://www.qmul.ac.uk/blizard/all-staff/profiles/dean-nieti.html) is leading internationally in the establishment of cellular models of neurodevelopment, ageing and neurodegeneration, and their correction using small chemicals. The postholder will lead part of a project using hiPSC systems and cerebral organoids to substantially improve our understanding of the pathomechanisms of Down syndrome and Alzheimer’s dementia, and/or the design of hi-throughput chemical screening assays for phenotype correction. They will be taught the skills of generating cerebral organoids and 3D neuronal cultures and have access to additional hiPSC from patients clinically stratified for Alzheimer’s dementia and a range of genetic models of Alzheimer’s dementia.

A postdoctoral position is available to join the newly established group of Dr. Ivan Kadurin at the School of Biological and Behavioural Sciences (SBBS), Queen Mary University of London. The project funded by the MRC aims to understand the molecular mechanisms underlying the regulation of excitation-evoked Calcium influx in mammalian cells. This is an exciting, multidisciplinary project primarily using mammalian cell lines, and primary neurons to investigate aspects of membrane biophysics and cell signalling related to Voltage- Gated Calcium Channel proteins (VGCCs). We investigate the structure-function relationship, interactions, and cellular trafficking of neuronal and cerebrovascular VGCCs proteins by focussing on novel pathways for their biological regulation to help to maintain human health and prevent disease (eLife2016;5:e21143; eLife2018;7:e37507).

The successful postdoctoral research assistant role will involve leading an exciting project that will focus on discovering new ways to improve cancer treatment with a special focus on the tumour microenviroment. The host institute is part of the new Cancer Research UK City of London Major Centre that encompasses a partnership between Francis Crick Institute, University College London, Kings College London and the Barts Cancer Institute. The work will be based in the laboratory of Professor Kairbaan Hodivala-Dilke in a team of tumour microenvironment experts with cross-institute collaboration at the heart of the study. The investigations will be based on published work from the Hodivala-Dilke lab (Wong et al., Cancer Cell 2015; Reynolds et al., Nature Medicine 2010) and will involve a stimulating, multidisciplinary work package of cell biology, immunobiology, molecular and in vivo analysis of novel ways to enhance the efficacy of standard cancer therapies including state of the art in vivo imaging. The project will focus on discovering the utility and mechanisms by which low dose integrin targeting can enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy and immunotherapy especially in pancreatic cancer.
