Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Fellow in Precision Measurements – Physics and Astronomy – 99520
The Institute of Gravitational Wave Astronomy at the University of Birmingham in collaboration with Strathclyde University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology invites applications for a 2- year Postdoctoral Prize Fellowship in Precision Measurements. The aim of the project is to build an internationally-leading coating centre.
Optical cavities are in the core of many precision instruments, such as optical atomic clocks, gravitational-wave detectors, optical rotation sensors, and quantum opto-mechanical setups. In order to advance precision measurements, we are building a facility to measure properties of the key components of optical resonators: optical coatings. Our measurement procedure is a crucial step in manufacturing high-quality coatings because we need to experimentally explore the whole parameter space of coating production, such as deposition rate, doping materials, and annealing

(04) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Fellow (Investigating Brain Oscillations and Vision) – Psychology – 99462
Applications are invited for a full-time Postdoctoral Research Fellow to work within the Centre for Human Brain Health, School of Psychology at the University of Birmingham. The successful candidate will work on a project to study the role of brain oscillations and attention in the visual system (lab of Dr. Ole Jensen). The methodological approach of the project is MEG recordings and brain stimulation in human subjects. There will be a special focus on the application of multivariate approaches to investigate phase-coding in the visual system. The postdoctoral researcher will be involved in all stages of designing and conducting experiments, analysing electrophysiological data. The postdoctoral researcher will be expected to prepare the results for high-quality academic publications, to present at national and international academic conferences, and to engage in public activities. Furthermore that Research Fellow will take part in the supervision of students and contribute to the School of Psychology through leadership.

About The University of Birmingham, England – Official Website
The University of Birmingham (informally Birmingham University) is a public research university located in Edgbaston, Birmingham, United Kingdom. It received its royal charter in 1900 as a successor to Queen’s College, Birmingham (founded in 1825 as the Birmingham School of Medicine and Surgery), and Mason Science College (established in 1875 by Sir Josiah Mason), making it the first English civic or ‘red brick’ university to receive its own royal charter. It is a founding member of both the Russell Group of British research universities and the international network of research universities, Universitas 21.
The student population includes 23,155 undergraduate and 12,605 postgraduate students, which is the 7th largest in the UK (out of 169). The annual income of the university for 2020–21 was £774.1 million of which £168.3 million was from research grants and contracts, with an expenditure of £738.5 million.
