Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Assistant or Associate, Protein Expression
Calibr is seeking exceptional Research Assistant or Associate candidates to join the protein expression team. Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Scientist/Research Assistant- Immuno-Oncology
Calibr is seeking a talented Research Associate or Assistant in the area of Immuno-Oncology. This position will work as part of a small team of interdisciplinary scientists to translate novel cell and protein therapies for the treatment of cancer into first in human clinical trials. Specifically, projects will be focused on the development of a gene therapy referred to as chimeric antigen receptor T (CAR-T cell) and in the development of immunotherapies known as CD3 T cell recruiting bispecific antibody platforms. Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Associate
The lab is developing new, general approaches to control the site and timing of enzyme activity. Enzymes have great potential as therapeutic and diagnostic agents due to their high specificity and catalytic activity, but the ability to better control the timing and location of enzyme function would enable the use of a wider variety of enzymes for therapeutic purposes. Our approach for enzyme programming relies on attaching an enzyme to its small-molecule inhibitor through an allosteric DNA tether. Upon interaction of the DNA tether with its complement strand, the ensuing conformational change activates the enzyme by dislodging the inhibitor from its active site. We have established the utility of DNA-programmed intrasterically-regulated enzymes in developing constructs for fast, sensitive, and PCR-independent isothermal detection of label-free nucleic acid sequences; carrying out complex logic operations; programming the activity of streptokinase, a clinically-used fibrinogen activator; and specifically killing targeted cancer cells. We are seeking qualified candidates who can join our multidisciplinary team of scientists to lead this broad research effort.

A funded postdoctoral position is available in the Laboratories of Jeffery Kelly and Kristen Johnson at The Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, California, USA, to work on the role of proteostasis in diseases of aging and neurodegeneration. Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Associate
Research in the Voss laboratory is centered on the development of engineered B cell therapies to achieve an HIV functional cure. A position is immediately available for a highly motivated individual who is interested in improving B cell genome-editing approaches and characterizing the function of engineered cells in vivo in the mouse and non-human primate (NHP) animal models. The successful candidate will join a small team that will include doctoral students and research assistants who will work together to accomplish experimental goals. Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a major cause of cancer death worldwide, accounting for over half a million deaths per year. Chronic infections with hepatitis B (HBV) and C (HCV) viruses have been recognized as main human liver carcinogens. Multiple non-viral factors have also been implicated in the development of HCC. The development of non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) and liver fibrosis represent high risk factors for HCC. Remarkably, we recently found that cyclophilin inhibitors suppress the development of viral-induced and non-viral-induced liver fibrosis and HCC in mouse models. However, their mechanisms of action are totally unknown.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Associate
SARS-CoV-2 is currently a major cause of death worldwide. Although vaccines are emerging, new therapies are urgently required. We recently developed a novel approach that permits the killing of SARS-CoV-2-infected cells while preserving non-infected cells. This new approach exploits the viral replication machinery (specifically the SARS-CoV-2 polymerase) to induce the expression of killer genes (diphtheria toxin fragment A) which triggers a rapid specific death of viral-infected cells, but not non-infected cells.
The research project will focus on NK cell-based vaccination protocols and immunotherapies to prevent HIV infection, or attack latently HIV infected cells in models of humanized mice that harbor a functional human immune system. The work will be performed using in-house generated mice and humanized mice and requires expertise in the generation and experimental use of mice and humanized mice, cancer immunology, tissue culture, in vitro cellular assays such as quantitative PCR, killing assays, proliferation assays, flow cytometry, cellular and molecular biology. Positions require successful completion of required training courses (i.e. animal use, radioisotope training, BL-2 safety and general lab and chemical safety training).

Specifically, this project will use phage and phage-derived tools to characterize the organization, structure, and dynamics of bacterial chromatin in the opportunistic human pathogen Pseudomonas aeruginosa. This project uses an integrative approach to study bacterial chromatin structure at multiple scales, from in vitro biochemistry, to quantitative single cell timelapse imaging using microfluidics, to macroscopic studies of biofilm communities. A postdoctoral position is available in the Encalada Laboratory in the areas of neurodegeneration, aging, and intracellular endolysosomal trafficking. Our lab is interested in characterizing the mechanisms of regulation of molecular motor-driven transport in neurons, the role that defective transport and endolysosomal pathways play in neurodegeneration and aging, and the mechanisms of spreading of misfolded proteins involved in prion diseases, Alzheimer’s disease, and other tauopathies. Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Associate
The focus of the lab is on long noncoding RNAs expressed in cancer and their relationship to known oncogenes such as MYC and PI3K. We are interested in studying RNAs which are expressed only upon gain of function in a driver oncoprotein. These lncRNAs are candidate markers of oncogenic transformation and in some cases may contribute to the oncogenic phenotype. An important goal of our work is the identification of lncRNAs that possess growth-promoting effects on cancer cells. As a tool, we use targeted Cas9 libraries. Once identified, the lncRNAs are characterized both functionally and structurally.

The selected candidate will plan and conduct novel research projects that involve a significant amount of cell culture, including human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs). Lipton and Nakamura at the Neurodegeneration New Medicines Center and the Department of Molecular Medicine, The Scripps Research Institute, La Jolla, California.
