The person in this position will gain production medicine-based clinical and applied research experience, while working with clients of the ISU Veterinary Field Services unit, ISU Food Animal and Camelid Hospital, and the ISU Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory. The primary roles of this position are to develop training modules for veterinarians and veterinary students in collaboration with faculty, provide high-quality veterinary care to the ambulatory care unit’s clientele; and to assist in the instruction of veterinary students within the department’s professional program. Depending on the candidate’s interest, there will be opportunities to conduct applied research. Responsibilities will include being on-call and providing emergency services.

Contribute to the SCID pig project through conducting research to develop the SCID pig as a biomedical model. Experiments will include flow cytometry and other methods to test results of procedures to maximize human cell implantation and development in the SCID pig. Analyze human cell tumors growing in the SCID pig for mutations and gene expression using next generation sequencing techniques and subsequent bioinformatic analysis. Test the effect of adding microbiota or other variables into the SCID pig environment. Coordinate with other members of the SCID pig project team to maximize resources and data generation from limited numbers of SCID pigs.  

To perform research on perovskite solar cells. Grow the material, fabricate the devices. Test the devices. Work with students.

Postdoc will work closely with BEI Director and Engineering team to conduct research on conversion of biomass and plastics using thermochemical processes. The Postdoc will use existing novel reactor systems to conduct thermochemical conversion experiments that can be at elevated temperature and pressure. With support from Engineering staff, Postdoc may modify existing reactor system, or develop new reactor systems. While research will be collaborative, it is expected that the PostDoc work independently and ultimately publish results through scientific journals, technical conferences and funding agency reports.

Experience with primary tissue culture, eukaryotic cell culture, and flow cytometry.  Must be able to work safely handling zoonotic parasites, including nematodes.  Must be able to handle blood, feces, and tissue matter.

The ADVANCE Midwest Partnership project is seeking a full-time Postdoctoral Research Associate to join the team of the project funded by the National Science Foundation’s ADVANCE program to support institutional practices leading to the increased representation of women in STEM disciplines. The collaborative project “Joining Forces: A midwestern partnership of research-intensive institutions for women STEM faculty success” consists of a partnership of four midwestern research institutions: Iowa State University (ISU), Michigan Technological University (MTU), North Dakota State University (NDSU), and Western Michigan University (WMU). The goal of the project, currently in its third year, is to adapt and implement cross-institutional practices to create institutional change that improves the climate for, and success of, underrepresented women STEM faculty and STEM women faculty with family caregiving responsibilities.

The Potoyan group at the Department of Chemistry at Iowa State University is seeking a postdoc research associate to work in the field of computational biophysics/chemistry. The appointment is a 1-year term with the potential for renewing for up to 3 years.  

This research (under the supervision of Professor Zengyi Shao) focuses on building disease models in yeasts, being particularly related to studying genes related to mitochondrial malfunctions. Prior knowledge in mitochondrial physiology and genetics or CRISPR-associated technologies is highly desired. The position is sponsored by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The Experimental Neutrino Physics Group at Iowa State University invites applications for two postdoctoral research positions. ISU work on current and upcoming neutrino experiments (ANNIE, NOvA, and DUNE) blends a robust science program with cutting edge instrumentation development and testing. The Post-doctoral fellow will contribute to the soybean, plant-based protein and millets crop breeding programs by participating in activities and conducting experiments related to study of plant pathology. Work will involve field and lab research and breeding experiments related to cultivar and germplasm development and associated research project in phenomics, genomics and screening for biotic stresses including diseases and insect-pests. The incumbent will develop and modify experimental designs, methods and techniques, and lead efforts on plant selection in field and lab for plant diseases. Other responsibilities will include field breeding related tasks from planting to harvest, and data analysis. The successful candidate will have excellent written and interpersonal communication skills, and will lead as well as assist in preparation of reports, papers and grants.  They will be self-motivated researcher, with effective written and verbal communication skills, and ability to meet research and work deadlines.
