(01) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral position in Advanced 5G and 6G Wireless Communication
The position is intended for talented researchers with the drive to push the knowledge frontiers in the area of advanced wireless networks towards 6G, with a special emphasis on one (or more) of the following areas: machine learning-aided wireless networks, spectrum management, decentralized learning, time-sensitive networking (TSN), green (energy-efficient) communication and learning. The duties include theoretical analysis, algorithm design and implementation in SW/HW (SDR etc.) and active dissemination of the research findings via international conferences and high-quality journals is expected. The position may also involve teaching and other administrative duties such as support in project management and writing new research proposals to attract industrial, national and European projects, but not more than 20% of work time.
The ideal candidate should be capable of autonomously conducting research in the above areas, and should combine good analytical skills with an attitude towards practical implementation. In that respect, experience with Matlab, C++, Python and Tensorflow is highly appreciated. Good command of English orally and in writing is required to present and publish research results.
Deadline : 2022-04-30
(02) PhD Position
PhD Position Position summary/title: PhD student, Electronics focused on Machine learning on embedded systems
The Department of Electronics Design is situated at Campus Sundsvall. In addition to its research activities, it offers courses and programmes in the subjects Electronics, Electrical engineering and Sound production. The research of the department is conducted at the research centre STC (Sensible Things that Communicate, www.miun.se/stc).
Machine learning has in recent years gained in attraction as a tool for data analysis and data-driven modelling. In an industrial setting, for example, it can be used to evaluate the condition of a machine, or predict the failure of a component based on sensor data. Currently, however, the data analysis is in most cases performed offline, that means at a location different from that where the sensor data is acquired. Due to bandwidth limitations, security concerns, and real-time requirements, amongst others, it is desirable to bring the data analysis closer to the data source. This means that it is desirable to run the machine learning algorithms on embedded systems with constrained resources.
This PhD position focuses on machine learning for energy-constrained embedded systems, such as wireless sensors operated on batteries or energy harvesting sources. During your PhD studies, you will contribute to a better understanding in this domain, investigating current machine learning methods on low-power microcontrollers or alternative low-power computing architectures. You will be analysing energy requirements and limitations, as well contributing to the development of novel and enhanced approaches. As a result, you will contribute to an exciting young field of research, and acquire an attractive competence relevant for both academia and industry.
As a PhD student in the Autonomous Sensor Systems group, you will be a vital part of the research group, collaborating with other PhD students, post-docs and senior researchers. Your studies will consist of courses and own research work, developing your competences through theory and experiments. You are expected to bring forward own ideas in the development of your research agenda, and to contribute to the publication and presentation of results. The research group, in turn, will provide a forum for discussion, supervision and assistance during your studies, supporting your research and career development. You will be part of a leading group in the field of low-power sensing systems and be able to exploit the group’s large international network

About Mid Sweden University, Sweden – Official Website
Created on 1 July 1993, the institution was originally called Mid Sweden University College (Mitthögskolan) and was the result of a merger between the University College of Sundsvall/Härnösand (Högskolan i Sundsvall/Härnösand) and the University College of Östersund (Högskolan i Östersund). The two university colleges had been founded in 1977, with roots in the School of social work that started in 1971 in the city of Östersund, and in the Folk high school teachers’ seminary and the nautical training/naval school that were launched in 1842 in the city of Härnösand. On 1 July 1995, the Sundsvall/Örnsköldsvik and Östersund Colleges of Health Sciences (Vårdhögskolor) were also incorporated.
In 2001 Mid Sweden University was awarded university status in the natural sciences area of research including IT, and was thus entitled to issue doctoral degrees. Employees that were carrying out doctoral studies before then were enrolled at other universities, where they had their main supervisor, but also locally supervised at Mid Sweden University College. Effective 1 January 2005, the government of Sweden granted the institution the right to call itself a university and the school’s name changed to Mid Sweden University (Mittuniversitetet).
