PhD position summary/title: PHD STIPEND – MARIE-SKLODOWSKA-CURIE ACTIONS DOCTORAL NETWORK “REWORLDING”, RECONNECTING FOR SUSTAINABLE WORK PLATFORMS

The project will investigate how to design and establish physical spaces, legal, economic, and technological services, capable of promoting the emergence of platform cooperatives in the city of Aalborg. That implies co-designing, together with the cooperative movement and marginalised social groups as unemployed graduates or international workers, strategies that can allow the establishment of platform cooperatives at the local level. More specifically, the objectives of the project are:(1) Perform Participatory Action Research(PAR) with the goal of establishing the Future Jobs Lab– an umbrella initiative supporting the emergence of different platform cooperatives in Aalborg.(2) Detect and articulate the specificities of reconnecting physical spaces, legal, economic, and technological services, in a way that is capable of supporting marginalised groups, as unemployed graduates or migrants, in building their local platform cooperatives in a variety of service and industrial sectors.(3) Co-design and test strategies for prototyping future work platforms in their institutional, physical, and technological elements. The expected results include:(1) PAR report on co-designing the Future Jobs Lab.(2) Collection and description of strategies and design capabilities for sustainable work platforms.(3) Prototypes of digital, physical, and institutional elements for sustainable cooperative work platforms.

PhD position summary/title: PHD STIPEND – MARIE-SKLODOWSKA-CURIE ACTIONS DOCTORAL NETWORK “REWORLDING”, RETRACING SUSTAINABLE PLATFORM COOPERATIVE MODELS

The project will focus on promoting the emergence of a platform cooperative in the city of Aalborg, relying on the adaptation of existing technologies(e.g. coopcycle.org in the delivery sector). By involving university graduates and migrant workers, the initiative allows tracing the network of support needed for the formation of platform cooperatives. This allows putting at the centre of co-design activities organizational models for platform cooperatives. More specifically, the objectives of the project are:(1) Support, through Participatory Action Research(PAR) in the city of Aalborg, the establishment of a platform cooperative to support the sustainable transition of the delivery sector, e.g. food, relying on existing technologies(e.g. coopcycle.org/en/) and involving university graduates and international workers.(2) Trace and document the more-than-human network involved in establishing a platform coop with a strong local orientation, beginning with the public institutions supporting the establishment of the cooperative.(3) Propose co-design strategies to identify ways of collecting start-up capital and developing business and technology models to maintain and develop the cooperative. The expected results include:(1) PAR report on creating and launching a sustainable, platform-based cooperative within a local community.(2) Collect, describe and analyse emergent practices in delivery, income-generation and relations between the cooperative, support space, local community and the technology design, development, and use.(3) Co-design infrastructures for business and technology models to maintain the platform cooperative.

(03) PhD Degree – Fully Funded

PhD position summary/title: PHD STIPEND IN MULTISCALE MODELLING OF FATIGUE DAMAGE IN COMPOSITE MATERIALS

The PhD project is a part of the projectMulFat– Multiscale modelling of fatigue damage in composite materials, which is funded by the Independent Research Fund Denmark. The main supervisor of this PhD project will be Associate Professor Brian Lau Verndal Bak.  The overall purpose of the MulFat project is researching the underlying mechanisms governing the significantly increased damage development in laminated fibre-reinforced polymers during fatigue spectrum loading. A physics-based micro-meso scale model of the damage mechanisms will be synthesized from knowledge generated by a dedicated experimental campaign. The model will be implemented in a finite element analysis framework and applied to a case study. The major topics in this PhD project are damage and fracture mechanics, experimental mechanics, programming, machine learning models, finite element method, and composite materials. The ideal candidate has documented skills in the areas: Modelling and analysis of laminated composite materials, image processing, experimental characterization, modelling using machine learning, progressive damage/fracture simulation during quasi-static or fatigue loading, cohesive zone modelling, and fracture mechanics. We do expect that some of these skills will have to be learned during the project and thus it is not required to have all the skills listed.

PhD position summary/title: PHD POSITION IN ECONOMICS, BUSINESS AND MANAGEMENT

Join us at Aalborg University Business School as we embark on a dynamic research journey. This position, funded by the Sino-Danish Center for Education and Research(SDC)(http://sdc.university), offers a unique opportunity to delve into the intricate crossroads of international business and innovation. We are seeking a PhD student to explore the innovative strategies of Danish companies operating in China. Our project, entitled’Localization Through Innovation: Dynamic Roles of Danish Companies in China’, is designed to address a multitude of new challenges and dilemmas arising for multinational enterprises(MNEs) in the fast-changing global business environment, characterized by volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity(VUCA). In such VUCA environment, the established foundational frameworks that elucidate why MNEs exist, what are their strategies for international expansion, and their ability to navigate the delicate balance between local responsiveness and global integration require refinement. The traditional conundrum of’to localize or not to localize?’

PhD position summary/title: PHD STIPEND IN WIRELESS ACCESS FOR HETEROGENEOUS INTERNET OF THINGS (IOT)

The Internet of Things(IoT) has caused a revolution not only in the world of wireless communications but also in our daily lives. Thanks to the vast number of IoT devices transmitting data autonomously, we have access to large amounts of data from the world around us and new IoT applications are appearning everyday. IoT devices were initially considered to be relatively simple, with limited processing and communication capabilities and running basic applications. However, IoT devices and applications are becoming more and more complex, specific, and diverse. This increase in complexity and diversity has major implications on the design of wireless access protocols for the IoT, as these must now be able to fulfill drastically different timing requirements. From devices that transmit sporadically and require ultra-high reliability to devices that transmit frequent updates and require a low age-of-information(AoI), the IoT systems of the future must be flexible and efficient, capable of providing the required differentiation of the services based on their requirements. Moreover, new access protocols for the IoT must be able to exploit the capabilities of state-of-the-art network architectures and multi-antenna technologies. This position is offered in the context of an industrial research project focusing on the design of wireless access mechanisms for heterogeneous IoT services. The PhD researcher will be affiliated with the Connectivity Section at Aalborg University.
