(01) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc – Living Lab in Rotterdam South (0,8 FTE)
The frontrunner project “Towards social and urban resilience for pandemics and disasters (SURE)” will target various resilience properties and system dynamics. Central in the project is the concept of compounding risks and the idea that pre-existing vulnerabilities are enlarged in the case of a pandemic or disaster, often in geographically concentrated areas in cities. The frontrunner project will deal explicitly on urban heat and Covid-19, but will also touch upon other disasters such as energy poverty in a Living Lab situation. The research will concentrate in the region Rotterdam South, but will be connected to other living labs, among possible others the living lab The Hague South-West. The research project Social and Urban Resilience for Pandemics and Disasters (SURE) Living Lab in Rotterdam South will focus on the conditions under which citizens’ initiatives and forms of community participation arise in response to disasters and pandemics in vulnerable neighbourhoods, and the public infrastructures/governances that are needed to support citizens. The aim is to gain knowledge for identifying and strengthening relevant citizen initiatives as well as a design for an adaptive local public infrastructure for dealing with the social impact of disasters and pandemics. The results will be published in the form of a handbook.

(02) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc onderzoeker VCC project ‘Doing Diversity’ (DoDive).
De omgang met diversiteit is een van de meest complexe en interessante maatschappelijke uitdagingen van dit moment. Daarom is het van groot belang om beter te begrijpen hoe er met diversiteit wordt omgegaan. Met name in superdiverse steden, zoals Rotterdam, worden professionele organisaties, publieke professionals en stedelijke practitioners geconfronteerd met diversiteitsvraagstukken. Culturele instellingen worstelen bijvoorbeeld met de vraag hoe ze gemarginaliseerde gemeenschappen kunnen benaderen, sportorganisaties worden uitgedaagd hoe ze inclusieve teams kunnen ontwikkelen, terwijl middelbare scholen improviseren hoe ze discriminerende praktijken van leerlingen en ouders kunnen aanpakken. In verschillende sectoren worden organisaties dus geconfronteerd met diversiteitsvraagstukken.
