The Laboratory of Prof. Thomas Baum at Iowa State University (https://faculty.sites.iastate.edu/tbaum/) is seeking to hire a new postdoctoral scientist. This position will play a key central role in our collaborations with other US and international research groups. A main area of responsibility will be funded research on the engineering of novel plant resistance to nematodes. This postdoctoral scientist will also contribute to the exploration of molecular virulence mechanisms and effectors of the soybean cyst nematode in collaboration with scientists at the University of Georgia and the University of Illinois. In addition, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to become involved in comparative genomic analyses of nematode parasitism in collaboration with the US Agricultural Research Service and the University of Cambridge. The Critical Material Institute within the Ames National Laboratory, is searching for a qualified Postdoctoral Research Associate to conduct research on the synthesis of organic substances related to critical material separation. The MacroSystems Ecology Lab (https://www.clu-lab.com/) in the Department of Ecology, Evolution, & Organismal Biology at Iowa State University is currently accepting applications for a postdoctoral position in the field of flood and nutrient pollution prediction. This position focuses on the fusion of deep learning and process-based hydro-ecological modeling. The chosen candidate will work closely with an interdisciplinary research team to forecast rural flood occurrences and nutrient loss from land to aquatic systems. Specific responsibilities encompass large- scale data development and analysis, enhancing hybrid models, conducting simulations, evaluating models, performing uncertainty analyses, and preparing manuscripts. Collaborative support from experts in computer science, deep learning, and hydroinformatics will be provided under two ongoing NSF projects. Moreover, the selected individual will be encouraged to explore new research directions, such as participating in research proposal development. Additionally, they will assist in lab management and engage with both graduate and undergraduate students.

This post-doctoral position in the Lübberstedt lab addresses the biological underpinnings of in vitro breeding technologies. The goal is to induce gamete formation and fusion of gametes in vitro, to allow rapid breeding cycles. It will require interdisciplinary interactions with engineers and animal scientists.
