A 1½ year Postdoc position is available in the Sustainable Microbial Application group at the Novo Nordisk Foundation Biotechnology Research Institute for the Green Transition (BRIGHT), DTU, starting the 1^st of September 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter.

 We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated Postdoc with a PhD and previous experience with protein engineering and expression. The research is part of a bigger project, Seabiocat (https://seabiocat.net/) funded through the Sustainable Blue Economy Partnership. The overall goal of the project is the development of an enzymatic reaction cascade for the production of KDG from seaweed carbohydrates.

This two-year postdoctoral position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to one of the world’s largest open-science initiatives dedicated to advancing microbial biosolutions for sustainable agriculture. As part of an international consortium of leading research institutions, you will help develop the scientific knowledge, technologies, and research infrastructure needed to accelerate the discovery and deployment of next-generation microbial biofertilizers.

IBIS is a five-year global open-science initiative supported by 210 million DKK (approximately 30 million USD) in combined funding from the Gates Foundation and the Novo Nordisk Foundation. Coordinated by DTU, the consortium brings together leading partners across Europe, South Asia, and Sub-Saharan Africa to establish an open Biosolutions Development Pipeline spanning microbial discovery, characterization, fermentation, formulation, in planta performance, and field evaluation. The initiative aims to advance the fundamental understanding of effective microbial biofertilizers while developing the technologies, predictive models, and standardized research framework needed to accelerate their development and deployment.

DTU leads the laboratory phase of the pipeline using advanced robotic workflows and high-throughput technologies, while partner institutions conduct field trials and upscaling across diverse agricultural environments in the Global North and South. By generating harmonized, large-scale datasets across the R&D pipeline, IBIS promotes reproducible, collaborative, and open research while enabling data-driven discovery and predictive BioAg development.

Your job is to support the vision of sustainable bio-based chemical and protein production. You will do so by designing novel production schemes to integrate supply chain information of the feedstocks with techno-economic and market data. Specifically, you will be responsible for identifying the most commercially viable production process to manufacture products based on a wide range of gas and underutilized feedstocks. You will be engaging with scientific and business leads, biologists, chemical/bioprocess, and environmental scientists/engineers to generate key indicators and eventually build a catalogue of technology to be executed by the global biotechnology community. One of the key aspects of this project is to spread knowledge to scientific and business stakeholders in BRIGHT. We seek a proactive candidate with a strong background in generating technology specific KPIs, economic performance parameters, and integrating mathematical modeling (built in-house using programming languages) of chemical/bioprocess production systems.

A 27-month postdoc position is available in chemistry at the Department of Chemistry, DTU from October 1, 2026, or as soon as possible. The work will be carried out in an international environment at DTU Chemistry and Oslo University, Norway, under the supervision of Associate Professor Martin Nielsen, Professor Anders Riisager and Associate Professor Ainara Nova, respectively. The first 12-month of the project work will be performed in the labs at Oslo University. 

We are interested in the computational characterization, analysis, and elucidation of catalytic systems for hydrogenative CO₂ valorisation under environmentally friendly conditions. We use a range of computational tools to aid our further development. You will be collaborating with a PhD student (position also open), who will be developing an experimental approach to the mechanistic understanding.
