The Multiscale Biomedical Systems Group within the Advanced Computing in Health (ACH) section of the Computational Sciences and Engineering Division (CSED) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) seeks a motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate.

This position primarily focuses on large-scale molecular dynamics (MD) simulations and AI-integrated multiscale modeling of complex biosystems. The successful candidate will also contribute to efforts that bridge molecular, cellular, and systems-level modeling, with growing relevance to emerging paradigms such as whole-cell modeling and networked biological systems.

You will work at the intersection of high-performance computing (HPC), computational biophysics, and machine learning, leveraging leadership-class computing resources and collaborating across ORNL, federal agencies, and academic partners.

The Grid Transients & Advanced Modeling Group in the Electrification and Energy Infrastructure Division (EEID) within the Energy Science and Technology Directorate (ESTD) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to perform R&D in the areas of electromagnetic transient (EMT) simulation and software development as well as dynamic and transient inverter modeling and different applications of the simulation. Selection will be based on qualifications, relevant experience, skills, and education. You should be highly self-motivated and independent in conducting research under general guidance and are expected to prepare manuscripts for scientific publication and present the work to sponsors and at conferences.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Research Associate – Condensed Matter Theory

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate who will develop and apply computational methods based on electronic structure theory and artificial intelligence approaches with emphasis on electronic properties of a range of quantum materials important to the DOE mission, including the materials classes described below. Research efforts will include application of Quantum Monte Carlo (QMCPACK, PYQMC) density functional theory (e.g. QE, VASP, PYSCF) and associated models to describe various properties of DOE-relevant quantum materials.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Research Associate – Computational Solid Mechanics for Digital Cert/Qual

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate who will use multiscale modeling and simulation to develop probabilistic lifing frameworks for high-temperature alloys and extreme environment structural materials. A strong background in mechanical behavior of materials is required. Demonstrated experience in the implementation of nonlinear constitutive models in commercial (e.g. Abaqus, ANSYS, etc.) and/or open-source finite element (FE) codes (e.g., MOOSE, DAMASK, etc.) is required. Experience with microstructural modeling (e.g. crystal plasticity) applied to fatigue and ductile fracture is preferred. Success will enable a fundamental shift in the domestic critical material supply curve while advancing Critical Materials Consortium capabilities in materials extraction from alternative resources—both vital to U.S. economic and energy security goals. This incumbent will work in close collaboration with other researchers from chemical sciences division, manufacturing science division and building and transportation science division. This project will develop materials and processing technologies that will result in a transformational improvement in extraction methods and gallium/graphite/rare earth element extraction.
