(04) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in Theoretical Philosophy (3 years)
The project What’s Next for Frontier Particle Physics? is a five-year research project conducted at Lund University, Sweden, with Principal investigator (PI) Adam Koberinski. Particle physics is at a crossroads: on the one hand, the Standard Model of particle physics has withstood decades of stringent tests, and boasts some of the most precisely confirmed predictions in the history of science. On the other hand, the Standard Model seems to tell us that it shouldn’t keep working as well as it does, and physicists expect that it is incomplete. This means that something is wrong with our current understanding of the Standard Model, but what could it be? Conceptual issues like this are a prime place for philosophers of science to weigh in.
This project is a three-pronged philosophical investigation into contemporary particle physics, aimed at diagnosing the theoretical and experimental challenges facing the Standard Model. It involves (1) a close study of the foundations of theoretical particle physics, (2) a big picture study of how and why particle physics was so successful over the last several decades, and (3) an analysis of experiments in particle physics that search for new, currently unknown physics. The project will involve embedded collaboration of philosophers directly within Lund University’s particle physics division, allowing for a close exchange of ideas and direct philosophical engagement with physics. Particularattention will be given to experiments conducted at the new European Spallation Source, located in Lund.
Deadline : 16.Aug.2026
(05) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral position in Formulation Technology with focus on characterization of soft matter using AF4-SANS
The project concerns the development of a novel asymmetric flow field-flow fractionation (AF4) coupling with small angle neutron scattering (SANS) as a sample environment at the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund. The project is financed by the Swedish Research Council (VR) and is in close collaboration with ESS and the ISIS Neutron and Muon Source in the UK. The purpose of AF4-SANS is to obtain size-resolved characterization, enabling more detailed characterization of polydisperse samples as well as being able to investigate specific subpopulations in a sample. The project is also supported by several international partners which have expressed interest in having AF4-SANS established at ESS. The partners can also provide research questions for collaborative projects on AF4-SANS application.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral position in Electrical Engineering focusing on Applied Cryptography and Privacy
We now offer a new postdoctoral position in the field of Applied Cryptography and Privacy. The research is devoted to the broader area of privacy-preserving storage and computation outsourcing. Privacy-preserving computation outsourcing allows users to outsource computation tasks to a cloud server without revealing to the server anything about the user data or even what kind of computations the user is performing. The project will explore the applications of FHE (Fully Homomorphic Encryption) towards realizing such privacy-preserving systems.
The position is funded through the Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program (WASP). WASP is Sweden’s largest individual research program ever, a major national initiative for strategically motivated basic research, education and faculty recruitment. The program addresses research on artificial intelligence and autonomous systems acting in collaboration with humans, adapting to their environment through sensors, information and knowledge, and forming intelligent systems-of-systems.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Post-doctoral fellow in Particle- and Nuclear Physics
The Light Dark Matter eXperiment is a fixed-target experiment planned at SLAC with the main purpose of searching for sub-GeV thermal-relic dark matter particles produced from an 8 GeV electron beam impinging on a thin target. The Lund LDMX group (LunDMX) contributes to physics analysis, detector development and performance studies as well as software development and computing. In addition, we are active in addressing sustainability questions related to developing a new particle physics experiment.
The overarching theme of this project is to get ready for LDMX data, and the work will be conducted in close connection with the international LDMX collaboration, in which Lund University is currently the only non-US participant. The main priority in this project will be to study the capabilities of LDMX to handle pile-up (multiple electrons hitting the target at the same time) in more detail. This will be based on simulation studies of potential backgrounds, detector performance, and physics sensitivities. One concrete example is the use of different codes for simulating critical backgrounds, comparing these predictions and developing methods for how to measure these backgrounds in data. The project also aims to explore to which extent machine learning methods can help with these tasks, e.g. object reconstruction and signal/background discrimination. This will be a focus in the project.
One exciting milestone for LDMX is the detector prototype system test with cosmic muons planned at SLAC in 2026. If the candidate is interested, there will be the opportunity to contribute to the analysis of this test data, mainly from the prototype of the hadronic calorimeter. Closely related to this, there is also the possibility to contribute to the characterisation of the HCal electronics with a test stand locally in Lund.
There is some flexibility in the research programme for this position, and details can be tailored to your specific interests and expertise. There will also be the opportunity to work with questions of climate sustainability in LDMX/HEP.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Reseacher within DEMCAMP
Democratizing Refugee Camps is a project that has been awarded a Swedish Foundations’ Starting Grant and is funded by the Riksbankens Jubileumsfond. The PI of the project is Felix Bender.
DEMCAMP asks what an applied ethics has to say with regards to the many refugees who do not live in the Global North, but remain in the Global South and, specifically, in refugee camps. It asks how we can understand and properly react to the vulnerabilities refugees experience in the camps. The project develops 1) a theory that better captures the vulnerabilities experienced by refugees in refugee camps and 2) a normative democratic theory that is capable of responding to these vulnerabilities. DEMCAMP demonstrates that what we can observe in refugee camps is the emergence of economic, legal and political systems that each function according to their own rules and logics and that result in refugees experiencing a set of vulnerabilities that remain unseen if refugees’ vulnerability is externally defined by humanitarian agencies such as UNHCR and only applied to refugee camps thereafter. To properly react to the vulnerabilities that refugees experience, refugee camps need to be democratized.
