(01) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title:  Postdoctoral Research Fellow – Reconfigurable Metasurfaces/Metamaterials and Silicon Photonics

The successful candidate will work on the design/simulation, fabrication, and experimental characterization of reconfigurable metasurfaces and metamaterials and/or silicon photonic integrated circuits aimed at controlling light-matter interactions down to the quantum level. Applications include quantum emitters, quantum sensing, and integrated quantum and neuromorphic photonic circuits on waveguide and optical fibre platforms.

The position offers access to state-of-the-art nanofabrication infrastructure at the Edmonton nanofab and complex materials growth at the Alberta Metal-Chalcogenide Manufacturing Facility (AM2F). The position will also have access to a myriad of classical and quantum optics characterization capabilities alongside the opportunity to collaborate with leading experts in photonics, quantum technologies, and materials science across Canada, the US and beyond.

(02) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc summary/title: Research Associate

This position offers an exciting opportunity for an individual with strong expertise in plant pathology, molecular biology, quantitative genetics, and statistical analysis to contribute to cutting-edge research on economically important diseases affecting field crops in the Canadian Prairies, including canola, soybean, and pulse crops. The successful candidate will be engaged in an integrative research program that combines field, greenhouse, and laboratory approaches to advance our understanding of pathogen biology, host–pathogen interactions, and the environmental drivers of soilborne and vascular diseases. A key focus of the role is the development of practical, science-based disease management strategies that directly support sustainable agricultural production.

The incumbent will play a central role in designing, coordinating, and executing diverse research activities, ranging from large-scale field experiments and greenhouse pathogenicity assays to pathogen isolation, identification, and advanced molecular and genomic analyses. The position also involves robust quantitative data analysis using modern statistical tools such as R, ensuring high-quality interpretation and dissemination of research findings. In addition, the role supports collaborative initiatives between the University of Alberta and industry partners, including the evaluation of seed treatments, resistance screening programs, and innovative disease management technologies across multiple crops and pathogen systems.

Within the Plant Pathology research program, the successful candidate will provide technical leadership and continuity across ongoing projects, while actively mentoring graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and undergraduate trainees in experimental design, laboratory techniques, and data analysis. The role also includes responsibility for managing research resources, coordinating procurement of materials, and ensuring adherence to laboratory safety and regulatory standards. Through these integrated activities, the position contributes to advancing fundamental and applied knowledge of crop diseases, strengthening industry–academic partnerships, and supporting resilient and sustainable crop production systems in Canada.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Associate

Applications are invited for a research associate position within Dr. Stephanie Chamberlain’s program of research. Dr. Chamberlain is seeking a research associate to support ongoing research projects, contribute to the team’s research, administrative, and educational activities, and assist in grant development for future competitions. The research program comprises a portfolio of ongoing projects funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), Alzheimer Society of Canada, and the Government of Alberta. These projects primarily focus on the care of older adults in continuing care settings. The research associate will lead research activities under the direction of Dr. Chamberlain, supporting data analysis, synthesis, and interpretation of findings, report writing, manuscript preparation, knowledge translation, and grant applications. They will also participate in project planning, team meetings, and foster collaboration with non-academic partners. The ideal candidate should have the ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. It is the expectation that the Research Associate is currently engaged in relevant health services research. The successful candidate must have a proven record of research accomplishment, and they will have the opportunity to be a co-author on relevant manuscripts if co-authorship criteria are met, and a co-applicant for research funding applications if such opportunity arises. They will work in a hybrid model (in-person and virtual, as applicable).

(06) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Scholar in Forest Growth & Yield

The Forest Growth & Yield Lab is seeking a highly motivated, mathematically-minded Postdoctoral Scholar to lead the development of next-generation forest dynamics models for the Western Boreal and Rocky Mountain regions.

The core goal is to produce models that can be applied in operational forest management and timber supply analysis while integrating advances in remote sensing. The work will critically evaluate existing Canadian and international growth models and enhance the representation of silviculture, climate, succession, and genetic effects in predictions of forest dynamics and development. The successful candidate will help translate these models into forms that support sustainable forest management decision-making.

We are looking for a quantitatively strong researcher who has (or is strongly motivated to develop) interest and aptitude in both forest science / stand dynamics / forest management and remote sensing / geospatial data integration. We prioritize demonstrated independence, intellectual curiosity, and the ability to identify what you don’t know and learn it quickly.

(09) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Fellow – Multimodal Models and Machine Learning

We invite applications for 2 Postdoctoral Fellow positions in machine learning and artificial intelligence, with a focus on multimodal foundation models and related areas. The successful candidate will join a collaborative research group lead by Dr. Xingyu Li, contribute to ongoing projects, and develop an independent research agenda aligned with the group’s broader interests.

Research areas of interest may include, but are not limited to:

  • multimodal foundation models

  • vision-language models and multimodal large language models

  • trustworthy AI, robust generalization, and model evaluation

  • efficient learning, adaptation, and representation design
