PhD position summary/title: PhD Scholarship in CRISPR-mediated Gene Editing Combined with Proteomics to Study the Function, Structure, Regulation and Targeting of Nuclear Exosome Adaptor Complexes in RNA Decay

Our genome produces RNA that either gives rise to protein or to independent RNA molecules. However, genomic DNA is hyperactive, and only a fraction of the RNA produced ends up as functional molecules – the rest is degraded. The exosome complexes are the molecular machines that detect and remove undesirable RNA so that cells do not drown in their own molecular waste?  The core complex of the exosome has been comprehensively studied, revealing that it is merely a general RNA degradation machine. Instead, specific recognition of its multitude of substrates is achieved by the association of the exosome with so-called protein adaptor complexes. Although some of these have been identified, we do not understand how they recognize and discriminate their substrates, how they interact with the exosome and how these interactions are regulated to achieve adequate RNA turnover at steady state or in dynamic cellular settings.

(04) PhD Degree – Fully Funded

PhD position summary/title: PhD position in Validation and Testing of Data-Driven Digital Twins

The research will be linked to the project ONE4ALL (Horizon Europe 2022), which aims to boost manufacturing plants’ transformation, especially SMEs, towards industry 5.0 (I5.0), reinforcing their resilience under unexpected changes in social needs. It is done through a human-and-sustainability-centred development of plug-and-produce reconfigurable cyber-physical production modules (RCPMs). Those will consist of self-reconfigurable mobile collaborative robots embedded with Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) devices for real-time monitorisation and interconnectivity. Our part in this project is the digital replication of the physical modules and processes through data-driven digital twins and controlled by a self-learning AI-based distributed and multidisciplinary decision support system (DSS). The position focuses on the validation and testing of digital twins.

(05) PhD Degree – Fully Funded

PhD position summary/title: PhD Position in Arctic Ocean Primary Production

The chosen candidate will investigate benthic primary production using microsensor techniques and incubations to characterize photosynthesis rates in microphytobenthos while exploring the importance of the spectral composition of light. This work will be done in collaboration with Professor Michael Kuhl at Copenhagen University. The student will have the opportunity to work with other techniques including PAM fluorometry, advanced imaging techniques to investigate the structure of biofilms, and HPLC pipelines to measure photosynthetic pigments. Computational techniques will allow modelling photosynthetic responses and upscaling measurements to get a broad-scale perspective on benthic primary production in the Arctic. Training will be provided on all aspects of this work.
