Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Fellow
We are seeking a Research Fellow to work on the InflAIM Project, an NIHR funded programme of work that is using novel statistical and AI methods to further the understanding the role of chronic inflammation in the onset and development of multiple long-term conditions (MLTC) throughout the life course.
The Research Fellow will design and implement longitudinal methods for studying the roles of inflammation, nutrition and intersectionality on MLTC, using flexible time to event, multi-state and other multivariate longitudinal models. The applied work will use large scale electronic health records data, including CPRD (Clinical Practice Research Datalink) and UK Biobank, and develop evidence synthesis methods to reconcile models across datasets.
Deadline : Wednesday 08 May 2024
(02) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position
Postdoc summary/title: Research Fellow in Real-Time Modelling
The main aim of the project the post-holder will join is to develop, improve and apply models for improving situational awareness and informing data collection in outbreaks via data analysis and forecasting. Including systematic assessment of the predictive ability of any forecasts made, and whether the inclusion of individual, spatial, behavioural or genetic data can improve them. There is considerable freedom for work within the aims of the project and scope for the development and use of state-of-the-art methodology and computation with direct impact on public health.
The successful applicant will have a postgraduate degree, ideally a doctoral degree in a quantitative discipline such as epidemiology, mathematics, physics, statistics, bioinformatics or computational biology, or similar research experience. Candidates should have proficient knowledge of a programming language for mathematical or statistical modelling, including some experience with R, and be committed to open research and/or software development. Experience in outbreak analysis or model-based forecasting is an advantage. Further particulars are included in the job description.
Deadline : Wednesday 08 May 2024

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Fellow
We are looking for an enthusiastic and productive mathematical modeler with an interest in learning new skills and in working with colleagues with a range of epidemiological backgrounds to advance the research agenda on health inequalities in England.
The post-holder will join a supportive team using OpenSAFELY for analysis of linked EHR data. This post is funded by a large NIHR grant examining socioeconomic and ethnic inequalities in respiratory virus transmission in England. The project aims to understand how respiratory virus infections can exert service pressures on GP practices during winter and if those are evenly distributed across practices and patient groups. The role of vaccination in mitigating these pressures will be a major focus of the project.

The post-holder will be responsible for developing and validating prediction models using data drawn from health records to estimate the effect of patient and practice level predictors. They will validate models against data from longitudinal surveys, and develop a system to help the NHS to monitor and manage pressures in primary care. They will work with Professor Michael Marks (interim PI) alongside a team at LSHTM, QMUL, Bristol and Oxford Universities.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Fellow in Vaccine Epidemiology
Applications are invited for an infectious disease modeler to join the Department of Infectious Disease Epidemiology & Dynamics.
The successful candidate will develop epidemiological models to understand the risks and benefits of introducing maternal respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccination in low- and middle-income countries. A new maternal RSV vaccine has been developed that has the potential to save the lives of infants from dying from RSV, but which may be potentially linked to a higher risk of preterm birth. This work will inform guidance from WHO about whether to use the vaccine.
