Postdoc summary/title: Postdoctoral Research Associate – Transportation Analytics & Decision Sciences

The Transportation Analytics & Decision Sciences (TADS) Group within the Buildings and Transportation Science Division (BTSD), Energy Science and Technology Directorate (ESTD) at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory is seeking applicants for a Postdoc Researcher in transportation analysis and modeling. The TADS Group assists the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), Department of Transportation (DOT), and other federal agencies in developing solutions to national transportation problems. TADS researchers conduct spatial and statistical analyses, build applications and models, and carry out engineering and economic analyses of issues pertaining to the transportation sector. This position will primarily support a multi-disciplinary effort that heavily focuses on freight and passenger transportation systems, estimation of fuel consumption, modeling, big data analysis, as well as developing data tools.

(03) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Research Associate – Physical Metallurgy of Lightweight Alloys

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate who will perform materials research in the area of aluminum alloy development for cast and additive manufacturing applications. The position will allow significant interaction with researchers with varying background and additional opportunities for professional development. This position resides in the Alloy Behavior and Design Group in the Materials Science and Technology Division (MSTD), Physical Sciences Directorate (PSD) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). The selected candidate will work with multiple other groups within MSTD and Manufacturing Science Division (MSD) on the physical metallurgy of aluminum alloys for automotive (with emphasis on electric vehicle systems) applications. Projects will include application of physical metallurgy principles to contribute to development of sustainable alloys with desirable advances in mechanical, thermal, and/or electrical properties. A background in solidification processing, mechanical properties, microstructural analysis, thermal properties, electrical properties, additive manufacturing, and high pressure die casting will be desirable but not necessary. The position will involve significant interaction with a large team within Oak Ridge National Laboratory, as well as external industry partners.

(04) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Research Associate – Composites Innovation Group

We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher who will focus on manufacturing of high temperature materials for advanced manufacturing of composites. We are seeking a postdoc with polymer chemistry and formulation experience, as well composite technology. If selected, you will be expected to collaborate amongst groups focusing on basic and applied research in various fields applicable to the current projects. This position resides in the Composites Innovation Group in the Manufacturing Science Division (MSD) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). As part of our research team, you will be among team members based at the Manufacturing Demonstration Facility (MDF), the Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) first facility established to provide affordable and convenient access to R&D expertise, facilities, and tools to facilitate rapid adoption of advanced manufacturing technologies including additive manufacturing and advanced composites manufacturing. The candidate will help aid the effort to develop specialized composites for strategic energy applications, especially for building technologies and equipment. You will perform the fundamental science to improve materials selection and processing of polymer composites with traditional and additive manufacturing platforms of various and numerous kinds; publish original peer reviewed research articles; and supervise students, and technicians.

(05) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc Research Assoc.-Microfabrication/3D Printing of On-chip Electrochemical Biosensor Arrays

Oak Ridge National Laboratory is the largest US Department of Energy science and energy laboratory, conducting basic and applied research to deliver transformative solutions to compelling problems in energy and security. We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate who will perform research exploring and refining processing sequences for fabrication of on-chip multi-electrode devices with electrochemical sensing functionalities. You will work with a team of researchers on 3D printing of polymer microstructures and their pyrolytic processing into carbon-based electrodes for integration into on-chip device architectures designed to enable multi-electrode electrochemical sensing. You will utilize well established photolithographic patterning and cleanroom processing techniques to fabricate devices that are suitable for in vivo electrochemical biosensing applications. This position resides in the Nanofabrication Research Laboratory (NRL) group at the Center for Nanophase Materials Sciences (CNMS), Physical Sciences Directorate (PSD), Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). This position is funded through a 5-year collaborative NIH grant NFE-21-08651 titled “Tunable Carbon Electrodes for In Vivo Neurotransmitter Detection”
