PhD position summary/title: PhD Candidate: Land Tenure Security for Refugees and Host Communities in Uganda
The project investigates how, and to what extent, innovative programmes that seek to enhance land access and tenure security for both host communities and refugees in northwestern Uganda impact the livelihood security of both hosts and refugees and peaceful cohabitation between the two groups. Answering the question can help advance academic debates on environmental governance and peacebuilding, and on the interfaces of mobility and land tenure. Furthermore, through an interactive research methodology, the project aims to contribute to more effective assistance in protracted refugee crises, transcending divides between humanitarian and developmental assistance.

As a PhD candidate, you will participate in the Graduate School for the Humanities. You will write a PhD dissertation, and provide your services to the Faculty of Arts of Radboud University for a period of six months, including approximately 500 hours of teaching in areas of your expertise. As this position is embedded in the Centre for Language Studies, your dissertation should be in accordance with one of the focus areas of this centre. We are seeking a PhD candidate for the research project ‘Open Strategizing for Infrastructures in Transition’ (PRONTO). To be able to shape socio-technical transitions, infrastructure agencies need to develop coordinated cross-sectoral infrastructure strategies. This requires infrastructure agencies to open up their processes of strategizing. As a researcher in the PRONTO project, you will investigate what practices of open strategizing are enacted by infrastructure agencies and help develop governance and modelling approaches in support of these practices. The PRONTO project is funded by the Dutch Research Council (NWO) and NGinfra and is a collaboration with University of Twente, University of Groningen, Delft University of Technology, Rijkswaterstaat, ProRail, Vitens, Alliander, the Port of Rotterdam, and the province of North Holland.
