(03) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral position, 2 years, to The Department of Molecular Biology

We are an interdisciplinary team of experimentalists, analysts and modellers, who work together closely to address important questions of malaria parasite development and transmission. We are now looking for an experimental geneticist for projects funded by the European Research Council and the Wallenberg Foundation. Aim of the position is to study the biology of sexual development and transmission of malaria parasite and their interactions with the vector. We seek to gain a genome-level mechanistic understanding of malaria transmission to get at the questions of vector competence and develop transmission blocking strategies.

(04) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral fellow in Sámi or Indigenous research

The postdoctoral fellow will conduct independent research with Sáami and/or other Indigenous themes. The research must be connected to the humanities. The outcome of the postdoctoral research will be published in the form of international scientific articles. In addition to conducting research, the job tasks include contributing to the development of Várdduo’s research environment by actively participating in seminars and other research activities as well as participating in unit-related meetings/activities. Other duties within Várdduo may for example consist of education- and research coordination, as well as collaboration with other departments and external stakeholders. Teaching may occur to an extent of maximum 20%. The job tasks may vary slightly over time depending on the needs of the unit.

(05) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Post doc position in laboratory assessment of human movements

Our multi-professional research group at the Department of Community Medicine and Rehabilitation; Physiotherapy, studies human movement control particularly in persons with movement deficits following trauma or disease. The current research project addresses the consequences of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury. Based on specific research questions, we aim to assess how knee function and movement ability are affected and how this and psychological aspects, such as fear of secondary injury, affect the individual We also develop and evaluate assessment methods for these aspects based on, e.g., three-dimensional  movement analysis, brain imaging techniques, clinical tests and questionnaires.

(06) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral position (2 years) in riparian network biodiversity conservation

The Postdoc will collaborate with a research team that includes Micael Jonsson (Umeå University), but also an EU-wide consortium of researchers from Germany, Italy, Portugal, and Spain that comprise the RIPARIANET project. Depending on the applicant’s interests and expertise, they will have the freedom to focus on various aspects of the broader RIPARIANET project, including riparian biodiversity and ecosystem processes and the catchment-scale spatial configuration of areas that are important for these. There will also be opportunities to visit, and work at, other study sites within the consortium. This is a two-year position funded through the Biodiversa program, which is locally administered by Formas.

(07) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral position (3-years) in geomorphology focused on channel network patterns, geomorphic change detection, and sediment transport in mining landscapes

Morphometry of landforms and channel networks in paraglacial landscapes are largely poorly understood, which can have implications for landform restoration. Successful restoration requires a full understanding of the natural landscape to obtain appropriate reference areas regarding channel dynamics and sediment transport. Currently, newly rehabilitated landscapes lack detailed monitoring programs to evaluate geomorphic processes in paraglacial landscapes. The extractive industry in Sweden currently has ~177 km2 of mining disturbed land, composed largely of waste rock (WR) storage. The currently accepted industry solution for WR storage prioritizes efficient deposition over environmental goals, but such storage facilities, due to hillslope and fluvial processes, may erode and become unstable. In this project, we will evaluate another approach, using a geomorphic design approach to create long-term, stable landforms in dynamic equilibrium, by routing water through a designed natural channel network. Achieving a long-term stable landform provides the foundation for ecological recovery including high biodiversity and a landscape usable for future generations. These objectives will be achieved through understanding morphology and dynamics of hillslopes and stream networks in paraglacial landforms in northern Sweden. The postdoctoral project is within a larger project ‘Waste2Place’, composed of a multi-disciplinary team of geomorphologists, ecologists, landscape architects, and representatives from four mining companies. The postdoctor will be involved in two work packages: WP2- Landscape assessment, aiming to quantify the geomorphology of paraglacial landscapes in northern Sweden, with a focus on stream channel network organization and related hillslopes using a combination of remote sensing techniques and field work; and WP5- Landscape performance monitoring, examining landform and channel evolution over the project period using high-resolution digital elevation data and sediment flux data. The goal through these WPs, together with other WPs focused on ecological recovery, is to develop a Swedish-centric geomorphic reclamation toolkit.
