(03) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc researcher for a project on public values in an mHealth world (0,8-1fte)
This project is part of the Gravitation programme Public Values in the Algorithmic Society (algosoc). The Gravitation program is an initiative by the Dutch government to support excellent research in the Netherlands. The funding is reserved for scientific consortia that have the potential to rank among the world’s best in their field. algosoc is a response to the urgent need for an informed societal perspective on automated decision making. Funded by the ministry for Education, Culture and Science for a period for 10 years, research in the algosoc programme will be grounded in a deep understanding of the systemic changes that automated decision making entails for core public institutions, for society, and for how public values are realised. The research will focus on three sectors: justice, health, and media. The programme brings together researchers in law, communication science, computer science, philosophy, public governance, STS, economy, and social sciences from five Dutch universities (Amsterdam, Utrecht, Tilburg, Delft and Rotterdam). Together, the algosoc community will develop solutions for the design of governance frameworks needed to complement technology-driven initiatives in the algorithmic society.

This post-doc position – which is part of the highly prestigious Health & Technology Convergence (https://convergence.nl/health-technology/) between Erasmus MC (EMC), Delft University of Technology (TUD) and Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR) – will position you at the forefront of the recently awarded Flagship ‘Consultation Room 2030: Continuity of Care from Hospital to Home’. This is one of the ten leading, long-term programs of the Convergence. In this Flagship, we lay the conceptual, methodological, legal, and practical groundwork for the sustainable embedding of digital health technologies. This project offers the unique opportunity to connect innovation to concrete health practices in an academic hospital setting of technological excellence.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc convergentie 1,0 FTE – Participatie van ongehoorde jongeren in Rotterdam (ESSB/DPAS)
Hoewel er steeds meer initiatieven worden ontwikkeld om de maatschappelijke en politieke participatie van jongeren vorm te geven, wordt ook steeds duidelijker dat grote groepen jongeren hierbij niet worden bereikt en aan de kant blijven staan. Een van de struikelblokken is het verschil tussen de ‘leefwereld’ van jongeren en de ‘systeemwereld’ die hen vraagt te participeren. Ook voelen niet alle jongeren zich bekwaam of in de positie om hun mening te geven. Bovendien valt op dat als jongeren al gevraagd worden om input te geven op beleidskwesties, deze input niet altijd mee wordt genomen in (participatieve) beleidsvorming, waardoor de kans dat jongeren nogmaals input willen leveren kleiner wordt.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc Convergentie 1,0 FTE: ‘Governance en impact van sociaal ondernemers op de arbeidsmarkt’ (ESSB/DPAS)
De stabiliteit en houdbaarheid van een maatschappij hangt in hoge mate samen de manier waarop mensen in die samenleving hun dag doorbrengen en aan hun dagelijks brood komen. Maar kan iedereen die dat wil, wel meedoen in de maatschappij en in het arbeidsproces? Dit vraagstuk speelt zeker voor jongeren en volwassenen die een afstand tot de arbeidsmarkt hebben (zoals jonge statushouders, ex-gedetineerden, voortijdig schoolverlaters door bijvoorbeeld een gebrek aan (passende) opleiding of sociale netwerken). Deze groepen kampen vaak met multiproblematiek: financiële schulden, verslavingen, kwetsbare mentale gezondheid, trauma, eenzaamheid en sociale isolatie. Volgens het Nationaal Programma Rotterdam Zuid is er met name op Rotterdam Zuid sprake van een concentratie van dergelijke kwetsbare groepen jongeren en volwassenen.

(08) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc Convergentie 1,0 FTE: ‘Dynamiek van precair werk in Rotterdam Zuid’ (ESSB/DPAS)
Precair werk is werk waarbij de arbeidsvoorwaarden, arbeidsomstandigheden en sociale bescherming relatief slecht zijn. Doorgaans draagt de werknemer bij precair werk (deels) zelf de sociale risico’s van arbeid, in plaats van de werkgever of de overheid. Tijdelijke contracten, oproepcontracten, platformwerk of freelance werk zijn voorbeelden van precair werk. Veel literatuur wijst op de negatieve gevolgen van precair werk, zoals financiële onzekerheid, mentale problemen en verminderd werkplezier. In sommige gevallen kan precair werk de opstap zijn naar regulier werk. De beelden over precair werk staan in schril contrast met talloze andere inzichten over de waarde van werk, waarin wordt gesteld dat werk onder meer bijdraagt aan een goede gezondheid, zelfontplooiing, financiële zekerheid en sociale contacten.
