(04) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Post Doctoral Fellow

The laboratory of Dr. Salvemini in the Department of Pharmacology and Physiology at Saint Louis University, School of Medicine is looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to join a vibrant highly collaborative and dynamic NIH-funded laboratory that performs cutting edge pain research. The lab interfaces with many of the basic science labs and clinical programs at Saint Louis University to provide a rich experience in the context of translational pain research.

The laboratory integrates behavioral pharmacology, molecular genetics, biochemistry and drug discovery measures to understand molecular pathways involved in the development of neuropathic pain. We are also interested in investigating the interactions between chronic neuropathic pain states and comorbidities, such as cognitive dysfunction, depression and anxiety. The lab has access to the many core facilities at Saint Louis University (www.slu.edu/medicine/research/cores-labs) and to cutting edge medical and biotechnology throughout the St. Louis region. Our basic-science driven approach has led to the identification of several pathways and novel targets that are enabling the development of new pharmacological strategies for therapeutic intervention. Translating our discoveries to the clinic is a key mission of our work.

(05) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Fellow

NIH-funded postdoctoral positions are available for highly motivated postdoctoral fellows to join the laboratory of Dr. Aubin Moutal, in the Department of Pharmacology and Physiology at St Louis university to study novel proteins involved in chronic pain in the context of autoimmunity. Our work focuses on first identifying determinants of the transition from acute to chronic pain by reverse translating clinical findings to then perform a complete mechanistic characterization of how these new factors influence chronic vs physiological pain. The PI has a strong record of high impact papers with multiple recent publications in Science Translational Medicine, Pain, and PNAS. Through the active external collaborations with the New York University (Dr. Rajesh Khanna), the University of Arizona (Dr. Frank Porreca) and with the Institut neuromyogene in France the candidate will also grow an interest in ion channel regulation, central mechanisms of pain and paraneoplastic syndromes, respectively.

Major techniques include immunohistochemistry, protein-protein interactions and protein biochemistry are employed to support findings from our behavioral and electrophysiological experiments. Applicants should have a strong background in molecular biology, IF, IHC, Western analysis, and enzyme assays; experience with phosphorylation, ubiquitination, and/or a mouse colony are pluses. Successful applicants will be highly motivated individuals with good communication skills, will have a proven publication record, and the ability to work independently. The applicants must currently have a Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Neuroscience or a related field. The appointment will be for 2 years with renewal up to 5 years and a competitive salary following NIH guidelines. Email a single PDF containing a CV, 1-2 pages summary of past research accomplishments, and contact information for three references to: [email protected]. All questions are welcome!
