Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral positions in Evolutionary Developmental Biology and/or Bioinformatics & Omics
The “Vertebrate Evolution, Development and Regeneration” group of Research Director Nicolas Di-Poi at the Institute of Biotechnology investigates a number of questions central to our understanding of craniofacial evolution and development in vertebrates. As an innovative approach, the laboratory takes advantage of squamate reptile models (lizards and snakes) to elucidate the developmental genetic basis of vertebrate craniofacial diversity but also to provide an evolutionary context to developmental disorders. Reptiles represent key emerging model systems in Evo-Devo as they display an exceptional array of life-styles, ecologies, morphologies, and regenerative capacities.
Deadline : March 31, 2023

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Post-Doctoral Research in Microbiome Research
The project is a comprehensive study of how resilient or eco-responsive host-microbiome interactions are to changing environments. Both biotic and abiotic factors can influence the bond between hosts and their associated microbes, and create an imbalance that may be linked to decrease in the host fitness and population dynamics in the field. The postdoc will have access to long-term data and yearly field samples to tackle related to microbiota / microbiome community change through space and time. The tasks of the postdoc will include field work, molecular work, and community analyses, and writing of manuscripts; and the details of the project will be adjusted to fit the research interests of both the PI and the postdoc.
Deadline : March 15th, 2023

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Researcher in spatial ecology and conservation planning
The researcher will work together with consortium partners to identify priority biodiversity areas that support the climate resilience of the planned network. You will use spatial conservation optimisation tools, such as Zonation, to infer opportunities for conservation across multiple species, habitats and under different climate and land use scenarios, and carry out research to quantify the uncertainty associated to the drafted plan. Together with researchers from the Finnish Environmental Research Institute (SYKE) you will collect data and carry out analyses that support Finland to plan and meet its biodiversity targets. Five percent of working time will be devoted to teaching and supervision annually.

About The University of Helsinki, Finland – Official Website
The University of Helsinki is a university located in Helsinki, Finland since 1829, but founded in the city of Turku (in Swedish Åbo) in 1640 as the Royal Academy of Åbo, at that time part of the Swedish Empire. It is the oldest and largest university in Finland with the widest range of disciplines available. In 2018, around 31,200 students were enrolled in the degree programs of the university spread across 11 faculties and 11 research institutes.
As of 1 August 2005, the university complies with the harmonized structure of the Europe-wide Bologna Process and offers bachelor, master, licenciate, and doctoral degrees. Admission to degree programmes is usually determined by entrance examinations, in the case of bachelor’s degrees, and by prior degree results, in the case of master and postgraduate degrees. Entrance is particularly selective (circa 15% of the yearly applicants are admitted). It has been ranked a top 100 university in the world according to the 2016 ARWU, QS and THE rankings.
The university is bilingual, with teaching by law provided both in Finnish and Swedish. Since Swedish, albeit an official language of Finland, is a minority language, Finnish is by far the dominating language at the university. Teaching in English is extensive throughout the university at master, licentiate, and doctoral levels, making it a de facto third language of instruction.
Remaining true to its traditionally strong Humboldtian ethos, the University of Helsinki places heavy emphasis on high-quality teaching and research of a top international standard. It is a member of various prominent international university networks, such as Europaeum, UNICA, the Utrecht Network, and is a founding member of the League of European Research Universities.
