PhD position summary/title: PhD The role of misperceptions in inhibiting a sustainable energy transition.
We are looking for a PhD student who is highly motivated to work on this topic, and is particularly interested in conducting theory-based research with a high societal relevance. You have completed a Master in Psychology with a focus on Environmental or Social Psychology, or a scientific education which is closely related to this, or you expect to receive such a Master degree soon. You have a creative, critical and independent research attitude and you are open to different perspectives on this research topic. You can work independently, but can also collaborate with other members of the research group.

PhD position summary/title: PhD Petrographic heterogeneity of the Rotliegend sandstone reservoir.
We are looking for a PhD candidate who will investigate the petrographic heterogeneity of the Rotliegend sandstone reservoir of the Groningen gas field within a wider project entitled “The role of heterogeneity in controlling the geomechanical behaviour of sandstone reservoirs”. Pressure changes due to fluid extraction have driven compaction of the sandstone reservoir of the Groningen gas field. This has led to widespread surface subsidence as well as seismic activity and to predict future subsidence the mechanisms controlling compaction within the reservoir have to be understood. The petrographic composition (detrital and authigenic mineralogy, sedimentary facies, grain shape and size, etc.) of the reservoir is thought to be one of the controls. However, the spatial distribution of these petrographic aspects is not yet understood.

PhD position summary/title: PhD position Privacy-Aware Control and Optimization.
A PhD position financed by the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) is available at the University of Groningen, the Netherlands. The aim of the project is to develop privacy-aware control and optimisation algorithms for cyber-physical systems, and to address the privacy concerns raised by collecting data and communication in those algorithms. The focus of this research is on streaming data, particularly data generated by dynamical systems, rather than static databases.

PhD position summary/title: PhD position in Theoretical Cosmology.
The Van Swinderen Institute for Particle Physics and Gravity (VSI) of the Faculty of Science and Engineering has an opening for a PhD position. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Assistant Prof. Ema Dimastrogiovanni on topics in theoretical cosmology, including primordial gravitational waves, inflation, reheating, cosmic microwave background physics. Dr. Dimastrogiovanni’s group currently includes two PhD students. Dr. Dimastrogiovanni is involved in the scientific activities of the LISA (Laser Interferometer Space Antenna) Consortium. The successful candidate will have access to a wide network of collaborators and will also be encouraged to become an active member of the Consortium.

PhD position summary/title: PhD position Real World Evidence for Precision Drug Therapy.
we are looking for a PhD candidate for a project in the area of Precision Drug Therapy. Precision drug therapy is a new and rapidly growing field that combines biomedical science, statistics, and machine learning. The ambitious goal of precision drug therapy is to identify optimal treatment strategies for patient subpopulations. You will seek to identify these subpopulations, the optimal treatment within those subpopulations, and possibly gain insight into the causes of diversity in patient response. To do this, you will make use of advanced statistical procedures embedded in the causal inference (potential outcomes) framework together with machine learning methods, applied to rich patient databases (see organisation, below). Such databases can include demographic and physiological measurements, genetic and genomic information, co-morbid conditions, individual patient preferences, adherence, lifestyle, and more.
Deadline of PhD Position: 30 May 2021
(07) Fully Funded PhD Position
PhD position summary/title: PhD positions in enzyme engineering and biocatalysis .
we are looking for two highly motivated PhD candidates who will contribute to an EU-ITN project called CC-TOP. The main goal of CC-TOP is to train the next generation of multi-disciplinary researchers in order to boost the development and exploitation of carboligation enzymes for industrial biotechnology, in particular for production of fine chemicals and pharmaceuticals. Therefore, CC-TOP will train 15 Early Stage Researchers (ESRs) in a mosaic of disciplines and technologies around enzymatic carboligation and its translation into industrial application. The network´s aim for efficient translation of breakthrough technology into industrial application is emphasised through the implementation of an industrial skills module and measures for active innovation management involving all ESRs.
Deadline of PhD Position: 31 May 2021
(08) Fully Funded PhD Position
PhD position summary/title: PhD positions in biochemistry, biophysics and structural biology.
The 3 PhD candidates with backgrounds in biophysics or biochemistry will conduct curiosity-driven biomolecular research to investigate the working mechanism of an ABC transporter involved in cell volume regulation, using high-resolution cryo-electron microscopy, single-molecule fluorescence and biochemical assays, and develop methods to study protein networks in synthetic membrane systems. The research will be performed in the groups of Cristina Paulino and Bert Poolman of the Groningen Biomolecular Sciences and Biotechnology Institute. T

PhD position summary/title: PhD position in Multiscale Modeling of Supramolecular Materials.
The aim of this project is to use molecular dynamics simulations to link polymer architecture and functionality at the molecular scale to the material’s macroscopic properties like self-organisation, dynamics, and mechanical response. Our goal is to develop predictive models at multiple scales to bridge the gap between simulations and experiments. The project is highly interdisciplinary, with possible collaborations with several experimental groups in the Faculty of Science and Engineering.
