(01) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title:  Postdoctoral Fellow in Chemical Physics

The Department of Physics offers a postdoc position available for a highly motivated and enthusiastic candidate for studies in the area of biomolecular physics. The applicant is expected to play a key role in exploring the physics of biomolecular condensates which are linked to the emergence of life by concentrating key chemicals that facilitated the formation of the earliest stable cells. This is a highly interdisciplinary project in the crossroads of biophysics, data science and physical chemistry.

The current project aims to development of advanced microdroplet reactor setups which offer precise control over biomolecular condensation and are designed for experiments at large-scale facilities, such as X-ray storage rings and X-ray free electron lasers (XFELs).

Deadline : 1 July 2024

(02) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc summary/title: Senior Researcher with focus on marine microbial environmental genomics

The global coastal oceans have exceptionally high biodiversity and productivity. However, they host sensitive environments and habitats often exposed to human impacts such as eutrophication, pollution and global warming. Coastal ecosystems have usually been regarded as carbon sinks, but new research shows that these systems can also emit significant amounts of greenhouse gases such as methane (CH4) and possibly nitrous oxide (N2O). The source of these emissions are microbiological processes, but it is not clear how they are regulated and to what extent these processes take place in water, sediment, or even on the surface of macroalgae and benthic animals. In order to maximize the benefit of coastal areas and achieve effective environmental management, it is essential to understand how these processes work and are regulated. Much is known about animals and plants in coastal ecosystems, but less about microorganisms, even though these are fundamental to the biogeochemical cycles of nutrients and carbon. Microorganisms live in complex communities where different species are often dependent on each other. To understand how coastal ecosystems convert carbon and nutrients, we need to combine the ecological and biochemical knowledge at the BSC with expertise in genomics and infrastructure at SciLifeLab. In order to build a long-term collaboration between BSC and SciLifeLab, we are now initiating SeaLab: SciLifeLab and Baltic Sea Center for Coastal Ecosystem Science. SeaLab will make it possible to conduct world-leading interdisciplinary research on coastal ecosystems and build new competence at both SU and SciLifeLab.

Deadline : 7 July 2024

(03) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Fellow in Conjugated polymer synthesis

This project is connected to the group endeavour to develop biodegradable organic bioelectronic devices. You will play a central role in the project team, by synthesizing and characterizing organic polymers that combine performance and sustainable design. The new materials will have direct application within the bioelectronic devices developed in the group. Advanced characterization techniques will be used to understand their structure, properties, and performance.

This recruitment is connected to the Wallenberg Initiative Materials Science for Sustainability (WISE, wise-materials.org). WISE, funded by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation, is the largest-ever investment in materials science in Sweden and will encompass major efforts at Sweden’s foremost universities over the course of 10 years. The vision is a sustainable future through materials science.

Deadline : 25 June 2024

(04) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Fellow in Political Science for the ERC Project DEMCOOP

The post-doc position(s) will be part of the five-year research project Democracy, Autocracy, and International Cooperation (DEMCOOP), which is directed by Professor Jonas Tallberg and funded through an Advanced Grant from the European Research Council (ERC). The research project explores why, how, and under what conditions regime type affects international collaboration. The research project relates to both comparative politics and international relations, and makes use of a combination of quantitative, qualitative, and experimental methods.

Deadline : 15.Sep.2024

(07) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Fellow in Sedimentary Palaeogenomics

The postdoctoral project aims to provide baseline data of past coastal biodiversity, and identify responses of Arctic coastal ecosystems to environmental change over the past ~1000 years by applying ancient DNA approaches to shallow marine sediments in the Beaufort Sea. These data will be used to investigate the consequences of (1) sea ice reductions on the population connectivity and range expansion of key vertebrate resources, and (2) increased organic matter input on benthic microbial and planktonic communities. Sediment cores for these analyses were recently collected by the FLO-CHAR team in Spring 2024.

Deadline : 15 June 2024.

(08) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Fellow in environmental science

The postdoc project is part of the Biodiversa+ project DESTRESS (Deciphering temporal trends and safe operating spaces for river biodiversity within the context of multiple stressors), funded by the EU and national funding agencies. The overarching goal of DESTRESS is to provide guidance and actionable knowledge needed to balance freshwater needs between riverine biodiversity and human society. Data analysis tools will be used to investigate links between biodiversity and major stressors such as hydrology and pollution by synthetic chemicals. A co-creation process involving water managers, relevant authorities and other stakeholders will be used to develop a Safe Operating Space to support evidence-based implementation of the EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030.
