Postdoctoral position summary/title: POSTDOC IN SAFE MACHINE LEARNING

Machine learning forges its way into many spheres of human activity from education, medical and legal supporting systems to autonomous vehicles. It is capable of classifying objects, trends, and patterns in a huge amount of data. Nonetheless, the control and monitoring solutions for critical infrastructures stay reluctant to this new trend due to high safety standards. To this end, we propose to merge stochastic safety with reinforcement learning. The learning intrinsically makes use of trials and exploration of new situations. Nonetheless, these new unknown situations may become unsafe points with no return.

Postdoctoral position summary/title: POSTDOC IN MULTI-BAND SHARED APERTURE ANTENNA ARRAYS FOR MIMO SYSTEMS

Due to the rapid growth of wireless communication systems, a full coverage for all the frequency bands from 2G to 5G is required for future base stations. Especially in 5G, large-scale phased arrays need to be implemented for massive MIMO systems. The requirements of covering multiple frequency bands have brought many challenges to the antenna design. The main issue is integrating multiple antenna arrays into a limited space where each array must provide dual-polarization and large scanning angle. The low band antennas are required to be jointly miniaturized in size and profile. Moreover, the locations of antenna elements must take into account both the beam scanning range and the shadowing between antennas at different frequencies. Finally, the interferences between array elements introduce another level of complications due to the different operating frequencies, polarization, and relative locations. Therefore, in order to achieve the desired performances, it is essential to apply and combine several theoretical methods such as antenna design, mutual coupling reduction, and higher order mode suppression.
