PhD position summary/title: PhD Fellowship in Petroleum Technology
The main objective of 3D-GIG is to is to establish and verify a workflow for automatic, real-time, around-borehole assembly 3D geological interpretation of logging while drilling logs, including deep sensing borehole electromagentic logs, for optimal well placement decision support while drilling. This workflow prepares the ground for future automatic updating of standard probabilistic 3D well-scale sector geomodels. The approach obviates the need for manual management of geomodels during the real-time phase.

PhD position summary/title: PhD Fellowships in Healthcare Teamwork
The Tools4Teams consortium combines in-depth learning within acute and chronic health care settings, to generate fundamental knowledge on cognitive, affective, and behavioural team interaction processes and how these processes can be supported by innovative tools for teams. Through translation of this fundamental knowledge across settings, Tools4Teams aims to respond to the challenges related to increased complexity of modern health care. Central themes are innovative support tools for teams (i.e. physiological sensors, information integration platforms, and AR/VR technology) and team competences (i.e. reflection, conflict management and multi team functioning) to continuously learn about how, when, where and by whom application of these tools is valuable, acceptable, and ethical. The main goal of Tools4Teams is to train 12 highly skilled doctoral candidates in six European countries with in-depth knowledge and cross disciplinary expertise in methods for research on teamwork and health services, design and system thinking, and ethics, complemented with transferable and networking skills, an entrepreneurial mind-set and experience of industrial application.

PhD position summary/title: PhD Fellowship in development of biomaterials
The Ph.D. fellow will be involved in developing and validating biomaterials for controlled delivery of compounds cells, drugs, and genes in the context of vascular diseases. Alginate is a notable example of biomaterials extensively used for biomedical applications, and to date, all available alginates used are extracted from seaweed algae. However, alginate composition in different seaweeds varies according to seasonal and growth conditions, and therefore obtaining alginates with homogeneous and reproducible structures presents a challenge. Bacteria produce an extensive range of extracellular polymers, including alginate, and thus can be used as a platform to create customizable biomaterials with predetermined structures and reproducible properties. The Ph.D. fellow will work on developing a highly innovative alternative to engineering bacteria for the recombinant production of tailor-made alginate biomaterials.

PhD position summary/title: PhD Fellowship in Physics
This project aims to study the phenomenology of strongly coupled dark sectors including dark pions as dark matter candidates. Particular attention will be paid to possible signatures in gravitational-wave experiments that can be related to a first-order phase transition in the dark sector. The candidate is expected to have a strong background in theoretical physics; experience with strongly coupled theories, low-energy effective field theories, thermal field theory, dark-matter or gravitational-wave physics will be considered as an advantage. The PhD project will involve both analytic and numerical calculations and also collaboration with international partners.

PhD position summary/title: PhD Fellowship in Petroleum Technology
The PhD canidate will be associated with the research project “REMEDY: Reduced Emissions and Improved Energy Efficiency on the NCS (Norwegian Continental Shelf)”. Remedy is a competence building project for business supported by the Research Council of Norway and industry partners. The main objective of REMEDY is to deliver a workflow to reduce CO2 emissions and improve energy efficiency at NCS while maximizing NPV (net present value). Furthermore, this workflow must be delivered ready for implementation in the operator’s tools. Ensemble-based reservoir management systems are now the standard tool for developing and managing oil reservoirs. Therefore, it is important to mature the workflows and their algorithms for applications that reduce greenhouse gas emissions. REMEDY expands the traditional ensemble workflow to an ensemble reservoir and emissions management workflow for managing and reducing CO2 emissions on the Norwegian continental shelf.

In the project, the PhD student will work together with researchers from UiS and NORCE and contribute to the overall workflow. The PhD project will concentrate on the decision-making part of the workflow by conducting research that can be used to strengthen the fundamental/conceptual decision quality framework The framework will be realized by the development and implementation of a Bayesian decision network (influence diagram) based integrated decision-making system which allows for intuitive and logical definition of the three important decision basis pillars: what do we want, what are the alternatives, and what do we know, as framed by Howard and Abbas (2015).

PhD position summary/title: PhD Fellowship in responsible leadership in the green transition
The selected candidate will conduct research on responsible leadership in the green transition. The environmental challenges associated with the climate and nature crisis generate a need for reconsidering what responsible leadership is – especially in organisations whose core activities need to be phased out if climate targets are to be met. The situation is made even more complex due to the fact that some of the means capable of reducing greenhouse gas emissions are themselves generative of other environmental challenges – e.g. wind and hydro power, battery production, hydrogen plants, etc. Moreover, the climate crisis and the green transition create new issues of social and spatial justice. These are closely associated with broader patterns of inequality and exclusion that cut across class, gender, and ethnicity (i.e., intersectionality) while also traversing the dimensions of justice: distribution, recognition, and representation.

The candidate will work on a project focused on nanobiotechnology using the zebrafish embryo to follow the fate of intravenously injected nanocarriers in disease areas such as tumors and tuberculosis granulomas. Being transparent, the zebrafish embryo is an excellent in vivo system to follow nanoparticles after injection. We are particularly interested in understanding the processes that lead nanocarriers to cross biological barriers.The hired person will be linked to other research projects ongoing in the group and be part of a larger consortium of collaborators within and outside of Norway.
