Postdoc summary/title: Postdoc in genomics

Professor Tuuli Lappalainen’s research group is looking for a postdoctoral researcher for an ERC-funded research project that links variation in gene dosage to cellular traits using a systems genetics approach. The research group works at the international forefront of human functional genomics, aiming to understand how genomic variation contributes to diversity of human traits and diseases. The project combines experimental work using CRISPR technology and single cell sequencing approaches with computational analysis. The specific project will be tailored according to the interests and expertise of the postdoc, and potential approaches can include angles from human genetics, gene regulation, cell biology and computational systems biology. Additional projects and collaborations can build on other research projects and data genererated in the lab, ongoing collaborative efforts, as well as the postdoc’s own ideas. We use both computational and experimental approaches across the disciplines of human genetics, functional genomics, and molecular biology. In addition to the team at KTH, located at the SciLifeLab campus, Dr. Lappalainen also has an active research lab at the New York Genome Center, with close interactions between the teams.

(04) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in experimental fluid mechanics

The postdoctoral researcher will conduct experimental (and if suitable and possible numerical) studies of various types of flow instabilities both within boundary layers that develop on rotating cones of various sharpness and within an eccentric Taylor-Couette-Poiseuille (eTCP) flow for studies of flow instabilities and transition to turbulence. Both set-ups are already existent. The former has produced a number of publications (the latest being: Ref1, Ref2, Ref3), while the second is ready for use and has produced preliminary flow visualizations. For the project, measurements will be undertaken with a multi-component LDV system and stereoscopic PIV, hence experience in experimental fluid mechanics is instrumental. Linear stability analysis and numerical simulations are also planned in case of suitable candidates. This project will allow direct comparisons between experiments, simulations and with theory for a better understanding of centrifugally driven instabilities in flows in rotating configurations, particularly in the transitional and turbulent regimes.
