(04) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral position in development and characterization of future-generation Zn batteries

The general aim of the research is the development and fundamental understanding of aqueous electrolytes for dendrite-free Zn batteries. More specifically, the project aims to identify and characterize electrolytes capable of uniform Zn plating/striping in Zn batteries. Development and screening of electrolytes is based on a high-throughput screening strategy with a fully-automated robotic line to prepare and test electrolytes online with electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance. The most promising electrolyte candidates are subsequently characterized in detail with a broad approach of analytical techniques, including operando gas analysis, vibrational spectroscopy, x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, etc. The work will be carried out mainly at Ångström Advanced Battery Centre (ÅABC), which is housed within the Ångström Laboratory – one of Europe’s best equipped Materials Research Laboratories. ÅABC involves the full-time activities of >80 researchers, of whom 8 are Senior Staff; the remainders are PhD students, postdocs, researchers and assistant professors. The group produces ca. 5 PhD theses annually. It is the leading research environments for the development of electrochemical storage materials and advanced battery technology in the Nordic countries. The focus of research is on modern commercial and next- generation Li-ion batteries, and future battery chemistries such as Na-ion, Li-S, organic electrodes, solid- state, etc. The expertise lies in synthesis of electrode and electrolyte materials and electrochemical testing, but equally important are the development and application of operando characterization, such as vibrational spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, diffraction, etc. and combinations of them.

(09) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Post-doctoral researcher in data security in machine learning

Machine learning is becoming a key component in many modern devices and services, ranging from personal mobile devices to autonomous vehicles or smart grids. To improve the underlying machine learning models, it is often crucial that devices share data among each other or with a central authority. This raises several privacy and cybersecurity issues and it must be ensured that both user data remains safe and that user’s privacy is ensured. In this project, we investigate how these challenges can be addressed using modern privacy-preserving approaches such as federated learning, differential privacy and machine learning using encrypted data.

(10) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral position in Ka-band planar and active antenna for SATCOM applications

The research project will include a mix of theoretical and experimental work, with specialization on Ka band, i.e. 20-30 GHz frequency band. The candidate will have the opportunity to study the electromagnetic design of highly efficient dual circular polarized, dual band, low-profile active antenna array for the Ka frequency band. The antenna should be phase controlled, to enable electronic steering of the beam in one or several planes to track satellites in orbit. The work involves the design and selection of a suitable array topology which will allow simple feeding geometry with minimum losses. Also the design of the suitable array which allows easy signal routing and feeding from the active beam former chips for dual polarized active array. Analysis of the integration of active beam former components: i.e. each antenna sub-array needs to be fed with an independent phase and amplitude from a commodity beam former IC channel. The tasks involve analyzing the interconnect between the active components and the antenna sub-array, including changes in the active scanning impedance. Amplifier design, such as LNA and power amplifiers. Other activities include the implementation and troubleshooting of frequency synthesizers, building demonstrators of the proposed antenna array solution and finally perform the evaluation of the performance of the array in an anechoic chamber. Project follow-up and reporting. Publication of several high ranked journal papers is expected during the project duration.

About Uppsala University, Sweden –Official Website

Uppsala University  is a research university in Uppsala, Sweden. Founded in 1477, it is the oldest university in Sweden and all of the Nordic countries still in operation. It has ranked among the world’s 100 best universities in several high-profile international rankings during recent years. The university uses “Gratiae veritas naturae” as its motto and embraces natural sciences.

The university rose to pronounced significance during the rise of Sweden as a great power at the end of the 16th century and was then given a relative financial stability with the large donation of King Gustavus Adolphus in the early 17th century. Uppsala also has an important historical place in Swedish national culture, identity and for the Swedish establishment: in historiography, literature, politics, and music. Many aspects of Swedish academic culture in general, such as the white student cap, originated in Uppsala. It shares some peculiarities, such as the student nation system, with Lund University and the University of Helsinki.

Uppsala belongs to the Coimbra Group of European universities and to the Guild of European Research-Intensive Universities. The university has nine faculties distributed over three “disciplinary domains”. It has about 44,000 registered students and 2,300 doctoral students. It has a teaching staff of roughly 1,800 (part-time and full-time) out of a total of 6,900 employees. Twenty-eight per cent of the 716 professors at the university are women. Of its turnover of SEK 6.6 billion (approx. USD 775 million) in 2016, 29% was spent on education at Bachelor’s and Master’s level, while 70% was spent on research and research programs.

Architecturally, Uppsala University has traditionally had a strong presence in Fjärdingen, the neighbourhood around the cathedral on the western side of the River Fyris. Despite some more contemporary building developments further away from the centre, Uppsala’s historic centre continues to be dominated by the presence of the university.
