The PhD position is part of the interdisciplinary project “Nuclear natures”. The purpose of the project is to explore how three phases of nuclear energy production (operating power plants, decommissioning, and handling of waste) create and impact surrounding environments. The aim is to articulate nuclear natures as an analytical category and as a common societal concern for just and livable places in the present as well as in the future. The PhD student will work in a sub-project that focuses on nuclear natures in relation to an operating nuclear power plant in Sweden, Forsmark. Other sub-projects focus on nuclear natures in relation to a decommissioning nuclear power plant in Germany, and in relation to long-term storage of radioactive waste, based on the ongoing construction of such a storage in Finland.

PhD position summary/title: PhD student in Language and Culture
This PhD is based around research on the WASP–HS PhD project “Autonomous cars as social agents”. Autonomous cars are one of the most promising, but also most challenging, application areas for artificial intelligence. The PhD offers the opportunity to work with Professor Mathias Broth, and Professor Barry Brown, two leading scholars in the fields of interactional analysis and human computer interaction. The PhD project will focus on understanding road interactions between experimental autonomous cars and other road users, from a sociological and interactional perspective. You will conduct video analysis of the interactions between vehicles and other road users, informing the design of future robotic vehicles, but also how we should regulate and control their use. It is planned that you will work with designers and researchers building experimental autonomous cars. The project is framed within an ethnomethodological multimodal analysis perspective – characterized by close analysis of real-time interaction. As a doctoral student, you will devote most of your time to doctoral studies and the research projects of which you are part. Your work may also include teaching or other departmental duties, up to a maximum of 20% of full-time.

At the Laboratory of Organic Electronics (LOE) we explore electronic and optical properties of organic semiconductors, biomaterials from the forest, and hybrid organic materials. We share a common interest in utilizing the combination of electronic and ionic charge for use in energy, internet-of-things, healthcare, and biology applications. Our research topics include synthesis, material science, theory and modeling, device physics, nanotechnology, biotechnology, and system design. Our activities span the range from basic research to commercialization, the latter carried out in close collaboration with RISE Acreo. LOE currently has more than 140 researchers and research students divided into eleven units, each led by a principal investigator.
The PhD position will be based in the Surface Physics and Chemistry unit of LOE, led by Professor Mats Fahlman. The Surface Physics and Chemistry unit is renowned for its pioneering research on surfaces and interfaces of (hybrid) organic materials and is affiliated with the Swedish Strategic Research Area of Advanced Functional Materials.

PhD position summary/title: PhD student in Medical Science
As a doctoral student, you devote most of your time to doctoral studies and the research projects of which you are participating. Your work may also include teaching or other departmental duties, up to a maximum of 20% of full-time.
As a PhD student you will participate in the project: “Systemic immune mechanisms in psoriasis.”
The PhD student shall, in dialogue with the supervisors, focus on the systemic inflammation in psoriasis. A chronic systemic inflammation in psoriasis leads to an increased risk of cardiovascular disease, but the underlying cellular mechanisms are unknown. Research tasks comprise cell culturing, making use of techniques such as flow cytometry, microscopy etc as well to analyze and document the data.

As a doctoral student, you devote most of your time to doctoral studies and the research projects of which you are part. Your work may also include teaching or other departmental duties, up to a maximum of 20% of full-time.
As a PhD student you will participate in the project: Addressing nonsuicidal self-injury by training in schools.
We aim to investigate underlying transdiagnostic mechanisms which have been identified as core facilitators of nonsuicidal self-injury (NSSI). We will also examine the effectiveness of a school-based prevention program to delay the onset and shorten the duration of NSSI, to assess changes in suicidal ideation and behaviors (SSI) linked to NSSI and general improvement in mental health in adolescents.

PhD position summary/title: PhD student in Analytical Sociology.
We seek to fill one position as PhD student (a 4-year full-time salary position) at the Institute for Analytical Sociology (IAS). IAS is an interdisciplinary research center on the intersection of analytical sociology and computational social science. Our research is typically focused on explaining key macro outcomes such as segregation patterns, inequalities, network structures and the spread of different kinds of behavior, and to specify in detail the mechanisms that generated the macro outcomes in question. The research conducted at IAS to a large extent utilizes data from Swedish population registers in order to study these phenomena.
The PhD project constitutes a part of a larger interdisciplinary Nordic research project on the Network Dynamics of Ethnic Integration. Bringing together a team of scholars and research centers in sociology and demography with computational and network scientists at four different research centers in Sweden, Denmark and Finland, this larger project combines network-scientific methods and high-resolution full-population register data to study ethnic relations and integration in three societal domains: family formation patterns, labor market discrimination, and residential segregation. Expanding the conventional focus on native-immigrant relations in integration research, this research project places an emphasis on the complete complex networks of relations within and between groups with different ethnic backgrounds.
