(02) Postdoctoral Position

Postdoctoral position summary/title: Postdoc The physics of cell division studied through synthetic cells.

The aim of this project is to ask the reverse question: how does the membrane geometry determine the assembly and constriction of the actin ring? Models suggest that actomyosin ring formation and furrow ingression sensitively depend on the cell geometry and the balance between cortical tension at the cell equator and the poles. Some models predict that contractile ring initiation furthermore requires cooperation with lipids and proteins that promote membrane curvature. To experimentally test these ideas, you will reconstitute synthetic cells by encapsulating a minimal machinery required for actin ring assembly inside lipid vesicles and use microfluidic devices, optical tweezers, and curvature-inducing proteins to impose a controlled membrane geometry.

(09) Postdoctoral Position

Postdoctoral position summary/title: Postdoctoral researcher on multifunctional structural batteries composites for electric aviation..

The postdoctoral position is part of a EU-funded project on the future of electrical aviation. Due to the prominent role that batteries will play, and the challenging restrictions connected to their weight, several concepts are being developed to address this issue, ranging from multifunctional structures that operate as batteries and as structural components to multifunctional structural batteries composite materials with a high functional integration. The postdoctoral researcher will be responsible for (1) identifying the most promising concepts and designs of multifunctional structures and composite materials (medium and long term development) (2) create models to establish the mechanical and electrical performance of the proposed structural batteries composites materials, with emphasis on their fracture limits and functional lifetime and (3) analyze from the model predictions the effect that structural batteries may have on the design of future electrical aircrafts in terms of overall weight savings and total energy storage capacity.
