PhD position summary/title: Genetic and Genomic analysis of Allopolyploid crops using Sequencing Data.
We will develop methods and tools to study the inheritance in allopolyploid crops (such as peanut, wheat, Chinese chives), and to characterize the genetic diversity at the gene level within and between subgenomes and in crosses and wider germplasm, using haplotypes constructed from DNA sequence reads. We will develop methodology to impute missing haplotypes in individuals and we will characterize subgenome differentiation at the level of these haplotypes and at the level of effects on traits. The methods and tools developed should be evaluated on crop data and be applicable to a range of allopolyploid species.

PhD position summary/title: PhD-researcher Development of actionable discharge and salt intrusion forecasts
In this project, the aim is to develop actionable probabilistic discharge and salt intrusion forecasts for the Rhine–Meuse–Scheldt delta. You will work on quantifying the sources of predictive skill, integrate hydrologic models and available measurements (e.g. through data assimilation, machine/deep learning, statistical postprocessing, etc.) to improve forecast accuracy, quality and value. This research will be conducted in close collaboration with end users (i.e. Rijkswaterstaat, LCW, drinking water utilities and waterboards) to ensure the developed forecast products are actionable.

PhD position summary/title: PhD ‘ownership structure, supplier relations and sustainability in food chains’
We invite applications for a PhD position within a project on ownership structure, supplier relations and sustainability in food chains. The PhD project will combine business economics and organisation theory in exploring how business characteristics and strategies may affect the choice for and performance on diverse sustainability outcomes. The PhD project will critically asses current ownership structures and current supplier-buyer relationships in their ability to support the transition towards sustainable food systems in Northwest Europe. The research will explore and analyze how different ownership structures, coordination mechanisms, contracting arrangements and financial mechanisms affect the ambition and capacity to contribute towards a more sustainable society.

PhD position summary/title: PhD in ATI protein modification
In this project, called “Modification of functional properties of Amylase Trypsin Inhibitors (ATIs) by REDOX reactions to mitigate pathogenic effects”, you will work in the Laboratory of Food Chemistry and FFC Food, Health & Consumer Research, Food & Biobased Research of Wageningen University and Research (WUR). The project aims to modify the functional properties of wheat Amylase Trypsin Inhibitors (ATI) via REDOX reactions in model systems and in situ during cereal processing (companies). Next to enzyme inhibitory activities of ATIs, that can have a negative impact on the digestibility of cereal based foods, they are the main cause of bakers allergies and play possibly a role in irritable bowel syndrome and non-coeliac wheat sensitivity.
