The postdoctoral fellowship is part of the research project Radical Pietism in Northern Europe: Social Protest on the Verge of Modernity, 1690-1750, funded by the Independent Research Fund Denmark and headed by Associate Professor Juliane Engelhardt. The postdoctoral fellow will be responsible for a sub-project that focuses how radical Pietists translated their conversion into distinct vestimentary, corporal, and emotional styles. The postdoctoral fellow will thus analyze radical Pietist practices in their context exploring alternative ways of achieving influence in the public sphere among people who possessed neither formal power, nor strong bookish training

The postdoctoral position is part of the research project “Urban encroachment – untangling drivers and dynamics of land-use transitions in ecologically sensitive areas” funded by the Independent Research Fund Denmark. The overarching aim of this project is to identify and promote more sustainable trajectories of urban expansion in African cities, allowing cities to accommodate rapidly growing populations, while preserving ecologically sensitive areas, benefiting from ecosystem services and building resilience to climate change. The research will entail a comparative case study of two rapidly growing cities – Accra in Ghana and Dar es Salaam in Tanzania – which are characterized by extensive informal expansion. The objectives of the research are:

• to estimate the scale and magnitude of natural areas lost in urban expansion.
• to gain insights into the motivations and logics of diverse actors involved in land-use conversions within ecologically sensitive areas.
• to develop a comprehensive understanding of how urban governance arrangements shape encroachment dynamics

We are seeking an enthusiastic and outstanding post-doctoral candidate with a strong interest in environmental and climate change law and EU Law. The ideal candidate must hold a relevant academic degree (in law or in another social science discipline, provided the applicant can also document sufficient knowledge in law), and possess the appropriate theoretical and methodological tools to carry out the research. Crucially, the successful candidate will have the ability to work in a collaborative international environment both independently and as part of the team.

The postdoc will be part the larger research team at CLIMA, which carries out work on climate change and sustainability. The center offers a nurturing, lively and expanding research environment that has developed frameworks that enable researchers to receive feedback on their ongoing work and interact with other researchers in their field.

The position is funded by the Independent Research Fund Denmark under the project Explaining proportionality conflicts in public policy: when public health and veterinary policy domains intersect (PropZoon).

The project focuses on the concept of disproportionality in public policy when public health and veterinary policy domains intersect. Disproportionality manifests itself as either policy under-reaction or over-reaction. The project aims to explore and explain these phenomena through rigorous comparative research.

Using qualitative comparative analysis (QCA), the project will compare the degree of inter-institutional conflict over proportionality across 15-18 European zoonosis cases. The goal is to understand how various institutional factors influence the levels of conflict between public health and veterinary authorities. Findings from this research are expected to be published in high-impact policy journals and communicated to relevant stakeholders.

The postdoc will be expected to conduct fieldwork in collaboration with other project members for 12 weeks + two periods of two weeks in two 9th grade classes in a Danish school and be responsible for a study based on this fieldwork focused on which identifications are enacted and ascribed among students and teachers through social category labels and their associated practices (linguistic, behavioural, interactional) in everyday school life. The study will illuminate which attitudes and alignments to different categories they construct through their practices and their reflexive comments and how the identifications relate to educational orientations and ideas of educability.

The postdoc is required to be able to work independently as well as engage actively in and contribute to the research team and the collective project, which investigates young people’s engagement in digital communities alongside their everyday practice at school and their reflections on educational influences and experiences. The project seeks to answer the overall questions: How is educability constructed and enacted in everyday school life and digital encounters? How do students reflect on their educational path and future aspirations? And which cultural models of educability can we identify across these domains to illuminate the challenges and refine our theorisation of contemporary mass education systems?

We are now looking for a post-doc researcher to study the emerging scenes for Islamic art in Scandinavia. It will identify how and where interaction takes place when artistic practices intersect with Muslim piety. The artistic practices can be visual arts, music, literature or performance and the scene can be performance stages, art galleries or literary forums as well as social media and websites. The project is not geographically limited to Denmark, transnational links and expressive forms are expected – yet they should be grounded in artistic practices of Muslims in Denmark. The researcher is expected to carry out an independent research project under supervision and as a result publish two academic articles. Alternative modes of documentation and communication of the project, such as curating a digital exhibition or organizing a reading event, are also welcome.

The Department of Food and Resource Economics (IFRO) at the University of Copenhagen invites applications for a 2-year fixed-term postdoc position, placed in the Section for Environment and Natural Resources. The position term may be pro-longed based on performance and funding.  We are looking for 1-2 postdocs who will mainly be working on the EU-project INTERCEDE (see https://efi.int/news/new-project-seeks-market-solutions-support-forest-benefits-and-services-2024-03-12) in collaboration with other partners from across Europe. The project will be researching approaches to incentivize provision of ecosystem services from forests in Europe, with particular focus on market based instruments.  

The postdoc’s duties will include research within environmental economics and policy, involving e.g., economic valuation methods, environmental policy analysis, and/or conservation science. The postdoc is expected to be part of several joint research activities, involving researchers with different disciplinary skills. Hence, good collaboration skills are needed. The postdoc will take the lead on some of these activities as jointly agreed. The postdoc may also be involved in other duties such as teaching.

The postdoc will be part of a project entitled Selection in Cognition funded by the Carlsberg Foundation and headed by Professor Søren Kyllingsbæk and Associate Professor Thor Grünbaum. The larger project develops and tests a new theory of basic cognitive selection mechanisms by combining methods and perspectives from experimental psychology, cognitive neuroscience, mathematical modelling, and philosophy. The core idea is that selection in cognition may be understood as a biased competition between representations in a stochastic race (Grünbaum, Oren, & Kyllingsbæk, 2021). In a series of experiments, we have consistently shown that tasks-sets are competing biased by their importance and that this selection process is severely capacity limited (Oren, Kyllingsbæk, Dupont, & Grünbaum, 2024). We will extend our new experimental procedures and mathematical models to the study of selection in planning and problem-solving. If our conjecture is true, higher-order cognitive processes like task selection, planning, and problem-solving depend on the same type of selection.

The project involves development of nanowire materials, cleanroom fabrication of nanodevices and electrical transport measurements. The candidate should have documented experience in these areas, and be capable of managing research projects and supervising PhD and master students. The specific Post Doc project is a part of an interdisciplinary European project on neuromorphic devices funded by the European Innovation Council.

The postdoc will be in charge of the development of semiconductor nanowire materials/electronics and integration with nanophotonic devices fabricated at Lund University. The overall goal of the collaborative European project is to develop optoelectronic devices for integrated sensing and neural computation, inspired by the insect brain. This combines four lines of research: 1) progress in understanding insect neurobiology that provides proven circuit designs to solve significant problems such as autonomous navigation; 2) advanced III-V semiconductor nanowire technology that exploits light to obtain a large number of interconnects with extremely low power consumption; 3) molecular dyes that can be used for memory components; 4) circuit technology developed for quantum computing.

You will engage in two exciting projects, each with its unique focus and challenges, with membrane protein-facilitated pH homeostasis at it’s centre.

Acid Sensing Ion Channels (ASICs): In this project, you will delve into the world of ASICs, critical players in cellular pH regulation. Your tasks will include detailed structural analysis of ASICs, exploring potential drug candidates that could modulate ASIC activity. Collaborating with team members from the laboratories led by Professor Stephan A. Pless and Associate Professor Joseph M. Rogers, you will contribute to advancing our understanding of a fascinating membrane protein important for our perception of pain.

Na+/H+ Exchangers (NHEs): The second project centres around NHEs, transporters essential for maintaining intracellular pH homeostasis. Your mission will be to purify NHE6 from native tissue. Working closely with team members in the laboratories led by Professors Stine F. Pedersen and Birthe B. Kragelund, your work will have direct implications for cellular health and disease.

In both projects, you will use integrative structural biology, combining biophysical and biochemical techniques with single-particle cryo-EM to gain unprecedented molecular insight into ASIC and NHE pharmacology and biology. You will work in a highly collaborative environment and are expected to participate in mentoring PhD students and other junior researchers in the Autzen group.

We are looking for positions that will focus on different aspects enhancer function and regulation, the interface with signaling and how they are influenced by the cell cycle. As a post doc in the Brickman lab, you will be working in a field of stem cell and molecular biology. You will be part of an international interdisciplinary team of scientists focusing on understanding enhancer regulation, gene regulatory networks and exploiting these networks to develop new technologies for cell type specification in vitro.  We work with in vivo and in vitro systems in both mouse and human. For this project, you will work with either mouse embryos, mouse, and human embryonic stem cell (ESCs), human Ventral Foregut stem cells, human hypoblast stem cells and three-dimensional synthetic models for human and mouse development. 

We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic postdoc for a 2-year position, who will investigate the role of sleep on cognitive deficits in neurodegenerative disorders.

The candidate will work with mouse models of neurodegenerative disease and perform in vivo characterization of sleep composition (EEG/EMG recordings) and wake behaviors as well as fluorescent imaging and optogenetic modulation of cells and neuromodulators in circuits related to memory consolidation. Preferably, the candidate would have in vivo experience with rodents.
