Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Researcher in Aesthetics
Our project will develop an innovative approach to how works of art, through the process of art criticism, can be reliable sources of knowledge. We aim to explore i) How art criticism can enable forms of fine-grained perception of art by articulating and thus making public their aesthetic structure, and ii) How an artwork’s aesthetic structure can encode forms of understanding which tend to resist translation into straightforwardly propositional terms. Our goal is to explain how the relation between perception and criticism can shed light on the close link between an artwork’s aesthetic value and cognitive value.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral position in modelling of carbon burial in lake sediments
Lake sediments constitute a carbon sink that has a cooling effect on climate. Current estimates of the global-scale magnitude of the lake carbon sink are however very uncertain as they build on extrapolation from few, geographically biased measurements. This project aims at building a process-based model of organic carbon burial in lake sediment, which will be validated at different scales, and then driven by the big data supplied by the climate science community through the ISIMIP project: globally-gridded and daily time-step data on climate, land use, water flow, and the thermal structure of >17,000 lakes. This allows a robust global estimation of the lake sediment carbon sink to be achieved, which is consistent with other efforts to simulate the Earth system. The project is financed through a grant from the Swedish Research Council.

(07) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral position in computational chemistry and structure-based drug design
The project involves studies of how neurotransmitters bind to GPCRs using molecular dynamics simulations. Central aims of the project are to understand the molecular mechanism of receptor activation and to design new molecules that activate GPCRs using structure-based virtual screening. The project focuses on the adenosine and dopamine receptors and will be carried out in close collaboration with experimental research groups to evaluate modeling predictions.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral position in gender dysphoria
We are now looking for you who is interested in becoming a member of our team. This postdoctoral position involves participation in the planning, coordination and implementation of our research studies that aim to provide scientifically robust answers to several of the current knowledge gaps in gender dysphoria (GD). For example, you will be examining core outcomes of gender affirming treatments (GAT) in GD, the safety of those treatments, as well as factors of importance for the non-completion of a GD evaluation, the decision to stop GAT or to undergo a detransition.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral researcher in computational biophysics, with focus on artificial intelligence in structural biology.
We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher to determine hybrid experimental/predicted protein structures. The project idea is to record and use data using single-particle cryo EM (project 1) or serial X-ray crystallography (project 2) and to combine these with methods that predict protein structure by machine learning and artificial intelligence (AlphaFold). The method development in machine learning is in close collaboration with the Lindsten group at the division of Statistics and Machine Learning at Linköpings University. Please state you interest in either project; combining them is also an option. We are very much interested in your own ideas in the subject area.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral position in deep learning-based methods for dynamic structure determination
You will be responsible for the development of flexible, non-parametric models for the analysis of measurement sequences from several instances of a study object that change over time. In collaboration with researchers at ICM, you will use these models to derive a 4D structure of the bacterial chromosome from image sequences. Such a structure would be imperative for the cell biology research field and answer many outstanding questions regarding the impact of the chromosome structure on gene regulation and microbial physiology and pathology.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Two postdocs in fabrication and characterisation of Josephson field-effect transistors for quantum computing
Quantum technology for quantum computing builds on a deep understanding of the fundamental phenomena underlying the quantum properties as well as of the phenomena limiting the qubit performance. The chosen materials and integration technology need to offer a real potential of scalability and reproducibility, as in the case of CMOS compatible materials including silicon and CMOS process technology. The aim of our new collaborative European QuantEra project (with partner groups in France and Hungary) is to realise and study a Si gatemon qubit, a gate tuneable transmon qubit composed of a Si Josephson field-effect transistor (JoFET) coupled to a microwave resonator. It represents a valid integrable and scalable alternative to fully metallic superconducting qubits.

About Uppsala University, Sweden –Official Website
Uppsala University is a research university in Uppsala, Sweden. Founded in 1477, it is the oldest university in Sweden and all of the Nordic countries still in operation. It has ranked among the world’s 100 best universities in several high-profile international rankings during recent years. The university uses “Gratiae veritas naturae” as its motto and embraces natural sciences.
The university rose to pronounced significance during the rise of Sweden as a great power at the end of the 16th century and was then given a relative financial stability with the large donation of King Gustavus Adolphus in the early 17th century. Uppsala also has an important historical place in Swedish national culture, identity and for the Swedish establishment: in historiography, literature, politics, and music. Many aspects of Swedish academic culture in general, such as the white student cap, originated in Uppsala. It shares some peculiarities, such as the student nation system, with Lund University and the University of Helsinki.
Uppsala belongs to the Coimbra Group of European universities and to the Guild of European Research-Intensive Universities. The university has nine faculties distributed over three “disciplinary domains”. It has about 44,000 registered students and 2,300 doctoral students. It has a teaching staff of roughly 1,800 (part-time and full-time) out of a total of 6,900 employees. Twenty-eight per cent of the 716 professors at the university are women. Of its turnover of SEK 6.6 billion (approx. USD 775 million) in 2016, 29% was spent on education at Bachelor’s and Master’s level, while 70% was spent on research and research programs.
Architecturally, Uppsala University has traditionally had a strong presence in Fjärdingen, the neighbourhood around the cathedral on the western side of the River Fyris. Despite some more contemporary building developments further away from the centre, Uppsala’s historic centre continues to be dominated by the presence of the university.
