Postdoctoral position summary/title: Analysis of Ocean Acidification and Multiple Stressor Extremes.
The Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences Program at Princeton University in cooperation with NOAA’s Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory (GFDL) seeks a postdoctoral or more senior scientist to identify oceanic areas subject to extremes in individual and multiple biogeochemical stressors (e.g. ocean acidification, temperature, ocean deoxygenation), and evaluate against site-specific observations to help inform requirements for future instrument deployment, as well as the development of sustainable management strategies. The incumbent will leverage GFDL’s existing 1/2 degree fully-coupled Earth System Model (ESM4.1) and an experimental suite including historical, climate change, mitigation, and idealized scenarios to a) conduct time slice model simulations to generate required model output, b) assess global and regional trends and variability of ocean stressor extremes, c) implement a coastal residence time tracer, and d) assess coastal residence times.

Postdoctoral position summary/title: Postdoc Positions: Using Machine Learning for Bias Reduction in Climate Models.
The Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences Program at Princeton University, in association with NOAA’s Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory (GFDL), seeks four postdoctoral scientists to conduct research on improving climate models. The work is part of a larger project, M2LInES, covering eleven institutions. The overall goal is to reduce climate model biases at the air-sea/ice interface by improving subgrid physics in the ocean, sea ice and atmosphere components of existing coarse ( to 1) resolution IPCC-class climate models, and their coupling, using machine learning.

Postdoctoral position summary/title: The Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences Program at Princeton University, in association with NOAA’s Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory (GFDL), seeks to fill up to three postdoctoral or more senior research positions in a research initiative aiming at advancing the fundamental understanding of the roles of clouds and radiation in affecting Earth’s climate and weather, and evaluating/improving their representation in GFDL climate/weather models. The recently developed GFDL climate models (CM4 and ESM4) are among the best-performing CMIP6 models in terms of mean climate and variability. They use the same FV3 dynamical core as the current NOAA/NWS weather forecast model. CM4 also forms the basis of a prediction model (SPEAR) and can be configured into a limited-domain cloud-resolving model (CRM) for process-level studies. GFDL has a long tradition in conducting cutting-edge research related to clouds/aerosols, radiation, circulation, precipitation and extreme weather/climate events. This search represents a concerted effort to push this prominent research direction to new levels.
