(08) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc of sustainable mobility and behavior

The greenhouse gases (GHG) emissions from the transport sector take up approximately a quarter of global GHG emissions and are still rising. Shared mobility system (e.g., ride-hailing, bike/e-bike and e-scooter/e-mopeds sharing), transportation electrification and autonomous vehicles, are promising solutions to renovate traditional transportation systems to be more efficient, sustainable and equitable.
These new technologies are being embraced by the world. From system perspective, improving urban mobility systems with emerging transport technologies in terms of operation and efficiency, is crucial for sustainable mobility. From the user perspective, understanding users’ travel behavior changes and mechanisms behind behavior shifting in new mobility contexts is vital as well.

(09) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in Quantum Information Science with Superconducting Circuits

We are looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join our ongoing research efforts in experimental quantum information science using superconducting circuits. The expected start date for this position is September 1, 2023. We will start reviewing applications on June 25 and continue until the position is filled.

The successful candidate will join our experimental team in advancing our capabilities on quantum information processing of superconducting bosonic modes, also called continuous-variables systems. Compared to two-level superconducting qubits, the bosonic architectures may bring advantages such as longer coherence times, resource-efficient quantum error correction, and well-understood loss channels. Our group recently demonstrated the preparation, manipulation, and tomography of a logical qubit encoded in a highly coherent bosonic mode. Now we plan to exploit the high dimensionality of the bosonic mode Hilbert space to both investigate quantum error correction protocols as well as scaling up to multiple cavities to demonstrate a verifiable quantum speed up advantage. Although our group’s initiative is focused on bosonic modes, the designs, workflows, fabrication processes, measurement procedures are closely related to that of traditional qubits. Hence, we work in close collaboration with the core effort within the WACQT center to build a large-scale quantum computer.

(10) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in Active Flow Control for Wind-propelled ships

Wind-propelled/assisted ships have emerged as a crucial component to achieve the GHG cuts set out by the IMO, the International Maritime Organisation, for maritime transport. Harnessing wind energy, Wind Propulsion Technology can replace a part of engine power to reduce fuel consumption and emissions; this combined with alternative fuels can lead to the vision of fossil-free shipping. This is a cross-disciplinary challenge involving aero- and hydrodynamics, structures, operations, metocean conditions, and more. This research aims to improve performance and operationability of wind assisted vessels by developing innovative flow control systems to increase the thrust and operation window and reduce structural issues with the sails.

(12) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in Industrial De-carbonization

As an employee at the Division of Energy Technology you are an important part of a group of researchers with the general aim to optimize and reduce environmental impact of our energy use. Your part is related to electrifying industrial high temperature processes. Many industries are still emitting vast amounts of greenhouse gases and must rapidly switch their processes to lower their environmental impact. Phasing out carbon intense combustion is necessary; however, some industries still require high temperatures to produce products demanded by society. Examples of such heavy emitting industries are producers of cement and iron and steel, for which alternative heat sources can be of hydrogen combustion or electrically generated plasma.
