(09) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Associate

To achieve these goals the eBird Status and Trends (S&T) project is seeking a Data Scientist to join our team. This work is at the interface of machine learning, statistics, and ecology and will span a range of topics from sampling design, exploratory analysis, visualization, and discovery to prediction, validation, quantification of uncertainty, and statistical inference.  The Data Scientist will play a leading role researching and developing the quantitative analyses used to generate and apply S&T data products. You will work closely with other team scientists to improve and extend models of species’ distributions, abundance, and trends, as well as developing new methods to create additional data products.  Common challenges we encounter include the separation of dynamic, multiscale ecological signals from the inherently noisy, biased observations collected by volunteers in a data-rich, big data production-scale environment. The Data Scientist will also participate in projects demonstrating how S&T data products can be used in impactful ecological and conservation applications and decision-making activities. This will take place through internal collaborations with CAPS and Lab scientists as well as with external partners and collaborators.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Associate: Applied Quantitative Ecologist

A key goal of the conservation science program is to use information on where and when bird species occur in the landscape to help inform policy and conservation decision-making. To this end, this position will lead the development of novel data products using Lab resources and data (e.g. eBird) that can be used to meet conservation, restoration, and management goals of governments, foundations, and the private sector. As part of this work, the Applied Quantitative Ecologist will lead collaborations with current partners (e.g. Institute for Computational Sustainability at Cornell), and communicate often with the S&T Project team to coordinate the use, application and interpretation of eBird data.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Associate | Plant Pathology and Plant Microbe Biology Section | School of Integrative Plant Science, CALS

The Huberman lab in the Plant Pathology and Plant-Microbe Biology section of the School of Integrative Plant Sciences at Cornell University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Associate position starting spring 2022 on a project entitled “Identifying fungicide mode of action using high throughput functional genomics”. This project aims to use massively parallel screens and transcriptional profiling to identify the genetic mechanisms involved in responding to fungicides. We will work in two fungi with unique genetic and genomic tools available: the filamentous fungus Neurospora crassa and the oleaginous yeast Rhodosporidium toruloides. The Huberman lab uses tools ranging from classical genetics to high-throughput screens combined with molecular and cell biology to answer questions about how fungi respond to environmental stimuli.

(13) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Associate Position in Computational Approaches to Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance

The postdoctoral associate will work primarily on multidrug resistance surveillance. Multidrug resistance complicates treatment of bacterial infections, therefore early knowledge of circulating resistance phenotypes can improve patient level outcomes and judicious antimicrobial use. However, the number of potential multidrug resistance patterns is exponentially large. We use association mining, an unsupervised machine learning method, to identify and quantify multidrug resistance patterns in phenotypic antimicrobial resistance data. We plan to incorporate genomic sequencing data into this surveillance approach and are interested in exploring new machine-learning techniques for multidrug resistance surveillance in human and animal populations.

About Cornell University, New York, United States – Official Website

Cornell University is a private, statutory, Ivy League and land-grant research university in Ithaca, New York. Founded in 1865 by Ezra Cornell and Andrew Dickson White, the university was intended to teach and make contributions in all fields of knowledge—from the classics to the sciences, and from the theoretical to the applied. These ideals, unconventional for the time, are captured in Cornell’s founding principle, a popular 1868 quotation from founder Ezra Cornell: “I would found an institution where any person can find instruction in any study.”

The university is broadly organized into seven undergraduate colleges and seven graduate divisions at its main Ithaca campus, with each college and division defining its specific admission standards and academic programs in near autonomy. The university also administers two satellite medical campuses, one in New York City and one in Education City, Qatar.

Cornell is one of the few private land grant universities in the United States. Of its seven undergraduate colleges, three are state-supported statutory or contract colleges through the State University of New York (SUNY) system, including its agricultural and human ecology colleges as well as its industrial labor relations school. Of Cornell’s graduate schools, only the veterinary college is state-supported. As a land grant college, Cornell operates a cooperative extension outreach program in every county of New York and receives annual funding from the State of New York for certain educational missions. The Cornell University Ithaca Campus comprises 745 acres, but is much larger when the Cornell Botanic Gardens (more than 4,300 acres) and the numerous university-owned lands in New York City are considered.
