The Center for Educational Informatics (CEI) at North Carolina State University is seeking a Research Scientist to participate in research and development activities for projects investigating artificial intelligence (AI)-driven learning environments. This position involves contributing to ongoing research programs and assisting with the development of new research programs. You will be working with a small team of other talented research scientists, software engineers, and digital artists to design, develop, and investigate AI-driven learning environments that integrate game-based learning, machine learning, and interactive narrative technologies. CEI is also home to the newly awarded National Science Foundation AI Institute for Engaged Learning. The Institute’s AI-driven learning environments build on its advances in core AI on natural language processing, computer vision, and machine learning. The successful applicant will teach two undergraduate courses per semester and pursue their own research agenda. Ability and willingness to teach one or more of the following courses (in addition to Principles of Sociology or Current Social Problems) is preferred: Soc 206 Social Deviance, Soc 261 Technology in Society and Culture, Soc 300 Social Research Methods, Soc 381 Sociology of Medicine, Soc 400 Theories of Social Structure or another 400-level offering. Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Research Scholar – DEPP

A Postdoctoral Research Scholar position is available in the Phylodynamics Research Group led by David Rasmussen in the Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology and the Bioinformatics Research Center at NC State University. The postdoc will participate in an NSF-funded project exploring how fitness tradeoffs limit viral host range and how generalist viruses evolve to resolve these tradeoffs. In particular, the postdoc will help connect theory to data by developing new phylodynamic methods for quantifying pathogen fitness between different host environments. These newly developed methods will then be applied to multi-host viral pathogens to empirically measure fitness differences and movement between alternative hosts.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Research Scholar – Horticultural Science

We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Scholar to join the tree fruit physiology program at NC State’s Mountain Horticultural Research and Extension Center in Mills River, NC. The incumbent will provide leadership on a federally funded project related to plant stress physiology of apple. This work is part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary project to characterize physiological responses to biotic and abiotic stressors as it relates to ambrosia beetle attacks and associated tree decline. Additionally, management strategies to reduce plant stress during orchard establishment will be developed and evaluated. The postdoc will be expected to coordinate project activities across disciplines (horticulture, entomology, and plant pathology) within the research team. This position offers the opportunity to gain Extension experience by working directly with growers and extension agents in on-farm studies and educational programs. Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Research Scholar – PMB

The Postdoctoral Research Scholar’s primary responsibilities involve coordinating research at multiple institutions by establishing and monitoring field and greenhouse experiments, training and managing personnel, managing and analyzing data, and contributing to the dissemination of results through manuscripts and presentations. The position requires travel to the western US for several weeks each spring/summer and fall to establish and maintain field experiments. The Postdoctoral Research Scholar will develop and evaluate Y-linked genetic systems for genetic control of spotted wing Drosophila and New World screwworm. This will involve targeting Cas9 plus sgRNA gene constructs to unique sites on the Y chromosome. Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Research Scholar – PMB

The Department of Plant and Microbial Biology at North Carolina State University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Scholar position in the lab of Dr. Terri Long. The Postdoctoral Research Scholar will collaborate with mathematical modelers to conduct hypothesis-driven molecular, genetic, and biochemical experimentation that will delineate the molecular rules underlying systemic Fe homeostasis in Arabidopsis. The candidate will be expected to contribute to a variety of studies to characterize protein function and dynamics in Arabidopsis that will require the use of in vitro protein analysis (ie. Immunoprecipitation, immunoblotting), as well as confocal, enzymatic, and physiological analysis. The candidate will be expected to design and conduct quality, substantive, and methodological research, and share and report research findings by publishing papers in peer-reviewed scientific journals and participating in research conferences, seminar series, and other appropriate professional activities. The postdoctoral scholar will be responsible for corn growth experiments with permutations of synthetic microbial communities (SynComs), quantification of microbial strains in vivo, and measurement of plant and microbial gene expression responses using LC-MS/MS-based metaproteomics. Metaproteomics data generation skills including operation of state-of-the-art high-resolution LC-MS/MS systems can be taught by the lab. The Biomanufacturing Training and Education Center (BTEC) at North Carolina State University (https://www.btec.ncsu.edu/) invites applications for a position as Teaching Postdoctoral Scholar in the areas of bioindustrial manufacturing, biopharmaceutical manufacturing, and biochemical engineering. This is a 12-month position and is renewable for up to three years, based on performance and funding.  Essential duties include but are not limited to the following:
  • Develop and implement a new course bioindustrial manufacturing – that is biomanufacturing of non-medicinal products. Through a recently funded initiative, there are opportunities to create and assess virtual course content, including virtual laboratory experiences.
  • Develop and deliver short courses to industry professionals in support of the AIM-Bio program. Course topics are all related to biomanufacturing of medicines (i.e., manufacturing of biopharmaceuticals).
  • Teach existing courses related to biopharmaceutical process development and manufacturing at the undergraduate and graduate level.
  • Advise/mentor undergraduate students in bioprocessing projects, particularly those related to development of courses.
