We seek to recruit a highly motivated colleague with advanced statistical and computational skills and a passion for natural history (taxonomic expertise on birds preferable but not required). We are looking for a highly motivated researcher to fill a postdoctoral fellow position at the Bureau of Economic Geology to assist with field experimental design and measurements focusing on detecting geological hydrogen and helium across Texas. The successful candidate will conduct field experiments that will answer fundamental questions about geological hydrogen and helium production from a variety of geological provinces that include identifying sources, migration pathways, reservoirs, and surface expression, as well as developing a framework for quantifying geological hydrogen and helium potential across Texas and proxy locations. This will include using a variety of in situ and remote sensing datasets.
The postdoctoral fellow will be joining a multi-disciplinary team of researchers and will be responsible for the designing, implementation, and interpretation of field experiments/surveys and remote sensing data. The position requires experience including in gas retrievals, geophysics, field measurements, subsurface characterization, and petrology.

One or two Postdoctoral researcher positions are available to work with Dr. Kelly Dorgan at The University of Texas Marine Science Institute in Port Aransas, TX, starting in January, 2025 (negotiable). Research in the lab integrates ecology, biomechanics (including engineering theory and methods), and invertebrate behavior, morphology and physiology with engineering theory and methods, including development of new instrumentation.
Postdoc research will be focused on understanding the mechanisms underlying bioturbation and/or on characterizing the impacts of infauna on deep sea sediment stability. Responsibilities may involve lab experiments and field work on sediments and burrowing animals. The positions are for 1-3 years, with extension past the first year dependent on performance and funding.
Candidates with strong backgrounds in biology or marine science who also have expertise in other sciences (math, physics/engineering, geology, etc.), creative writing or arts, or technical skills (workshop, electronics, etc.) are especially encouraged to apply.
