Postdoctoral position summary/title: Researcher in Solid Mechanics (Test beamline)
The project is a collaboration between the Division of Solid Mechanics at Lund University and the Neutron Instruments Division at ESS, which is responsible for designing, constructing and then operating neutron instruments of the ESS. The TBL is being constructed with the primary purpose of characterizing the target-reflector-moderator system and to verify the performance of the neutron source as a function of operating parameters, such as proton beam power, stability, pulse length and beam rastering, as well as the moderator conditions. Comparison between the measured and simulated neutronic performance of the moderator will be an important reference for the different neutron scattering instruments. The TBL will also aid in optimization of instruments and methods to take full advantage of the unique long-pulse time structure of the ESS neutron source. The TBL should ultimately support the user program more directly, e.g. by aligning and characterizing single crystals and performing exploratory imaging or diffraction studies of samples to be measured at one of the user instruments. It will also serve as a local characterization station to support technical developments in areas such as neutron optics, polarization, shielding and detectors. As the facility matures, the modular design of the TBL will allow adaption to fulfill additional objectives.

Postdoctoral position summary/title: Postdoc in Archaeology: Submerged Stone Age Heritage
We are now offering a two-year Postdoc position to investigate the research potentials of “Blue Frontiers Archaeology” within the wider Kattegatt region. Rising sea levels and other shoreline adjustments after the end of the last Ice Age drowned human landscapes in many world regions. Some of the best-studied submerged landscapes have been discovered in southern Scandinavia, and record the important cultural and environmental developments that shaped the Stone Age societies of the Late Pleistocene and early Holocene. In recent years, growing collaborations with Aarhus University in Denmark have explored the rich opportunities presented by submerged archaeological heritage. The Postdoc will be tasked with building deeper momentum in this strategic research theme. The goal for the postdoc is to “activate” this area’s rich bio-cultural heritage by integrating currently available data and completing a new synthesis that will define a new generation of research questions that can be addressed by application of new and existing methods and approaches.

Postdoctoral position summary/title: Post-doctoral position in environmental law
One post-doctoral position in environmental law.
The topic Environmental Law includes those parts of the legal system that aim to protect the environment and to promote ecologically sustainable development, in a broad sense. This includes, inter alia, issues concerning protection of ecosystems or parts of them (water, air, species, biodiversity etc.), environmental aspects on chemicals, goods, waste management and transport, mitigation, and adaption regarding climate change and the interplay between various factors for successful protection of the environment. Further, the topic includes issues concerning the efficiency and adequacy of the legislation in relation to the purpose of environmental protection, including control, sanctions and instruments for voluntary action, the balancing between the need for environmental protection and competing interests, access to justice and the design of legal proceedings.

Postdoctoral position summary/title: Resarch engineer within stemcellmetabolism
The research group of Stem Cell Metabolism conducts research in hematology, especially hematopoietic stem cell biology and erythropoiesis. In this particular project, we aim to establish an efficient method that can induce maturation of immortalized human erythroid cell lines, which will enable these types of cells to become a future source of red blood cells for transfusion therapies. We will use advanced imaging technologies, flow cytometry and complex cell culture system, as well as standard molecular biology assays to achieve the goal. The group is led by group leader Kenichi Miharada. The Stem Cell Metabolism lab is embedded within the Lund Stem Cell Center, an internationally ranked research center as well as StemTherapy program.

Postdoctoral position summary/title: Post-doctoral position in green polymer chemistry
The post-doctoral position in polymer technology focused on green polymer chemistry is focused on the synthesis of new bio-based monomers and polymers using building blocks from renewable resources, as well as the characterization of the structure and properties of these materials. The main objective is to develop new synthesis strategies and new knowledge on how these bio-based polymers, for example polyesters, should be molecularly tailored to meet the requirements of various industrial applications in order to phase out plastics from fossil raw materials. The experimental work includes chemical synthesis and molecular characterization of monomers and polymers, preparation of new polymeric materials, and analysis of, for example, mechanical and thermal properties, as well as morphology and processability. Postdoctoral position summary/title: Postdoctoral fellow in Particle Physics on the ALICE experiment at CERN
The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN is the world’s most powerful accelerator. The ALICE experiment (http://alice-collaboration.web.cern.ch/) is the dedicated heavy-ion detector to exploit the unique physics potential of nucleus-nucleus interactions at LHC energies. Our aim is to study the physics of strongly interacting matter at extreme energy densities, where the formation of a new phase of matter, the quark-gluon plasma (QGP), is expected. The existence of such a phase, and its properties are key issues in QCD. For this purpose, we are carrying out a comprehensive study of particles (mainly hadrons) produced in the collision of heavy nuclei. ALICE is also studying proton-proton (pp) collisions both as a comparison with lead-lead (Pb-Pb) collisions and in physics areas where ALICE is competitive with other LHC experiments.

About Lund University, Scania, Sweden – Official Website
Lund University is a prestigious university in Sweden and one of northern Europe’s oldest universities. The university is located in the city of Lund in the province of Scania, Sweden. It traces its roots back to 1425, when a Franciscan studium generale was founded in Lund. After Sweden won Scania from Denmark in the 1658 Treaty of Roskilde, the university was officially founded in 1666 on the location of the old studium generale next to Lund Cathedral.
Lund University has nine faculties, with additional campuses in the cities of Malmö and Helsingborg, with 40,000 students in 270 different programmes and 1,300 freestanding courses. The university has some 600 partner universities in nearly 70 countries and it belongs to the League of European Research Universities as well as the global Universitas 21 network. Lund University is consistently ranked among the world’s top 100 universities.
Two major facilities for materials research are in Lund University: MAX IV, a synchrotron radiation laboratory – inaugurated in June 2016, and European Spallation Source (ESS), a new European facility that will provide up to 100 times brighter neutron beams than existing facilities today, to be opened in 2023.
The university centers on the Lundagård park adjacent to the Lund Cathedral, with various departments spread in different locations in town, but mostly concentrated in a belt stretching north from the park connecting to the university hospital area and continuing out to the northeastern periphery of the town, where one finds the large campus of the Faculty of Engineering.
