(01) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title:  Postdoctoral Fellow in Modelling plant-soil interactions

Plants can contribute to soil carbon stabilization, but can also increase soil organic matter decomposition near their roots via the rhizosphere priming effect. Using the novel, observation-based PrimeSCale model, we showed that priming can accelerate soil carbon losses, at a rate that is globally relevant even when only considering permafrost environments (Keuper & Wild et al. 2020 Nature Geoscience). This postdoctor will upgrade and expand PrimeSCale to a global scale, and compare priming effects across large-scale biomes.

(02) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc summary/title: Postdoctoral Fellow in Arctic Ocean methane oxidation

The aim of this postdoctoral position is to provide observational constraints on methane oxidation rates in the Siberian Arctic Ocean, using samples and data from previous Arctic Ocean expeditions that are already available in Stockholm. These include a growing dataset on concentrations, 13C- and D-isotopic composition of methane across the water column and sediment pore water at hot spot and background locations, surface sediment samples, and sediment cores from decadal to glacial/interglacial age. Potential approaches might include the use of gradients in methane isotopic composition with distance from source, sediment incubations, biomarker approaches etc. Applicants are asked to provide a research plan as part of their application.

(07) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Fellow in Experimental Quantum Computing with Rydberg ions

The Trapped Ion Quantum Technology group at Stockholm University invites applications for a postdoctoral position on our trapped Rydberg ion project. The successful applicant will work on trapped ion experiments to perform fast quantum gates and quantum algorithms via Rydberg interaction.

Trapped Rydberg ions are a new system for quantum computation. By laser pulses the ions’ outermost electron is excited to a high-lying Rydberg orbital [1]. Such Rydberg ions are million times bigger than ions in the ground state, and due to their size obtain very peculiar properties. Trapped ions can be entangled via a strong Rydberg interaction in less than a microsecond [2]. This method supports fast entangling gates in large ions crystals, thus enabling a fast trapped ion quantum computer or quantum simulator.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Fellow in Isotope Studies of Greenhouse Gases over South Asia

The postdoc will join a strong and long-standing research program focusing on the interlinkages between severe air pollution and climate change in South Asia. To reduce uncertainties, there is need for field-observation-based constraints.  This project is focused on leveraging multi-isotope techniques (e.g., δ13C, δ2H, δ18O, Δ14C) to advance constraints on the sources and atmospheric fate of key target gases such as methane, carbon monoxide and others in the highly perturbed atmosphere of South Asia. The combination of strategically located regional source and receptor sites with advanced isotope techniques will allow detailed characterization of sources, atmospheric reactions and overall constraints of the lifecycle of these gases of large importance for the changing climate.

(15) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Researcher in Ethnology

The Department of Ethnology, History of Religions and Gender Studies invites applications for a 2-year part time (0.5FTE) research position within the division of Ethnology to work on the Swedish Research Council funded project: ‘The afterlives of migration: Integration, ordinary ethics and intimate citizenship’. The study aims to examine the concept of integration through the narratives of those who are considered to be “integrated” in Sweden and United Kingdom. Earlier studies have shown that an integrated migrant is often seen as someone who has gained a certain level of upward social mobility and social recognition. But what does this mean for each individual? What does it mean to belong, on what terms, for how long? With what costs? The study approaches these questions by examining integration both as a process and as an outcome. By focusing on everyday dilemmas, in work life, family life, and social networks, the understanding of integration is deepened as an ongoing process that actualizes both vulnerability and a sense of belonging. The study has two main areas: (i) examination of key themes in national policy documents on initiatives related to integration in Sweden and England over the past 10 years (2013-2023); (ii) how individuals narrate their everyday lives and dilemmas in the context of integration discourses. The material therefore consists of both text-oriented discourse analysis of policy documents and government investigations, as well as biographical narratives.
