(01) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title:  Post Doctoral Scholar, Physics and Astronomy & Cell Biology and Anatomy

The postdoctoral researcher is responsible for performing experimental research on detecting ultra-weak photon emission from biological samples. The candidate will plan, perform and analyze experiments on biological samples using single-photon detection systems. The candidate’s tasks will be based at the National Research Council of Canada in Ottawa with occasional research visits to UCalgary.  These two sites are home to teams with expertise in biophoton detection/theory and neuroscience applications, who will jointly mentor and supervise the candidate. The candidate is expected to support the development of funding and attracting graduate students to ensure continued growth in the area of quantum biology. The incumbent will be expected to also present research accomplishments and findings in internal and external meetings, conferences, reports and publications.

(02) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc summary/title: Postdoctoral Scholar, Microbiology, Immunology and Infectious Diseases, Cumming School of Medicine

The postdoctoral scholar will be involved in the use of antigen-specific nanomedicines capable of re-programming different immune cell types in vivo to dissect immunoregulatory cell networks.  The candidate will join a multidisciplinary team of scientists working at the interphase among protein engineering, nanomedicine, in vivo cell re-programming, developmental immunology and chronic inflammatory disease. They will have the opportunity to use a variety of functional, phenotypic (e.g. multi-dimensional flow cytometry, mass cytometry), transcriptomic (e.g. scRNAseq) and epigenetic tools (e.g. ChIPseq, multiome) to dissect pharmacodynamic effects of in vivo cell re-programming.

(03) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Post Doctoral Associate in Adult Cancer Survivorship, Cumming School of Medicine and Faculty of Nursing

The postdoctoral scholar will use mixed methods research (quantitative and qualitative) to evaluate health outcomes of cancer survivors using administrative health data, conduct patient-oriented research focused on pancreatic cancer, and evaluate decision making along the cancer trajectory using scoping reviews and/or surveys and focus groups. The postdoctoral scholar will work under the supervision of Dr. Colleen Cuthbert, assistant professor in the Faculty of Nursing, Canada Research Chair in Patient and Family Centered Cancer Survivorship, and Dr. Winson Cheung, Professor and Lead for Health Services Research for Oncology in Alberta. Drs Cuthbert and Cheung are health services researchers conducting studies focused broadly on health outcomes in cancer patients.

(04) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Scholar, Community Health Sciences, Cumming School of Medicine

The primary purpose of this role is to conduct clinical effectiveness research in head and neck cancer. The postdoctoral scholar will advance the research portfolio of the ORI, specifically the health services research portfolio. The postdoctoral scholar will lead research, under the supervision of the Principal Investigators, which will include assisting with writing grant applications, completing ethics applications, conceptualizing and designing research studies, executing research studies and disseminating the findings (including writing manuscripts and presenting findings to stakeholders). Given the ORI is founded on principles of collaboration and multidisciplinary research the postdoctoral scholar will also liaise with all relevant stakeholders throughout the research process.

(05) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Scholar: Department of Physics and Astronomy, Faculty of Science

The research will be focused on characterizing and quantifying the dynamics of the contraction of fossil fuel-based electricity systems and growth of non-emitting generation, including describing potential pathways of contraction and determining when and how operational issues arise, defining new metrics that can be integrated into existing modeling approaches, and defining and evaluating different solutions to address transition challenges. In addition, the postdoctoral scholar will be responsible for reporting progress updates for funding agencies and may provide supervision and mentoring for undergraduate and graduate students.

(06) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Scholar, GiSRT, Arctic Institute of North America

The Postdoctoral Scholar (PDS) will report to the Principal Investigator at the Arctic Institute of North America (AINA) at the University of Calgary, and the co-investigator at Athabasca University, working in a collaborative environment that includes other investigator and project partners. The PDS will work toward developing a suite of genomics knowledge-mobilization tools that will support environmental decision making. The focus is on supporting end-users, such as northern Indigenous Peoples, with responsibilities for ( or interests in) the areas of biodiversity, conservation, and wildlife management.

(08) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Scholar, Department of Medicine

This two-year Postdoctoral Scholar will train emerging leaders in data science for kidney health and disease. The two key areas of focus are: (1) development and validation of predictive analytics approaches, and (2) implementation and testing of decision support tools for kidney health and disease. The work will be part of a CIHR team grant titled: Using personalized risk and digital tools to guide transitions following acute kidney events – a pragmatic randomized controlled trial. This work will leverage Connect Care the newly integrated provincial electronic health record to improve quality of care in acute kidney injury. Interest in the use of electronic health record data and experience in epidemiology and trial design would be an asset. Postdoctoral output will include opportunities to disseminate to academic, clinical, operational, and lay audiences to inform local and provincial policy, procedures and decision-making in an evolving learning health system.

(09) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Scholar, Reservoir Simulation, Department of Geoscience, Faculty of Science

Currently, we are looking for a postdoctoral fellow (PDF) with extensive reservoir simulation and optimization experience and strong analytical background in CBM for a one-year term, with the possibility of an extension for a second year.  This position is part of an ongoing Mitacs Accelerate program, which allows collaborating directly with the industry partner. As required by Mitacs, the PDF is expected to spend 50% of their time at the industry partner organization. The successful candidate will be part of a multidisciplinary team of engineers and geoscientists at the UofC, helping the industry partner to design an actual CO2 storage pilot in Canada.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Scholar in Sea Ice/Polar Marine Biogeochemistry, Department of Geography

Dr. Brent Else (University of Calgary, Department of Geography) and Dr. Lisa Miller (Institute of Ocean Sciences, Fisheries and Oceans Canada) are seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to contribute to the international project: “Climate relevant interactions and feedbacks: the key role of sea ice and snow in the polar and global climate system (CRiceS)”. The goal of this project, funded in part by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 programme and Canada’s New Frontiers in Research Horizon Global Platform, is to improve how biogeochemical models represent the role of polar processes and feedbacks in the global climate system. The Postdoctoral Fellow will work with both observationalists and numerical modellers within the CRiceS project to compile existing observational data implementation in model development. Specific efforts within CRiceS include better understanding of: air-sea exchange in the presence of sea ice; carbon export and deep sequestration; iron and nutrient supplies to sea-ice biota; and seasonality and sources of aerosol precursors; among other topics. The PDF should expect to conduct field studies relevant to the requirements of the modeling efforts. The ideal candidate will be either an observational scientist interested in pathways to mobilize field studies in climate models, or a modeling scientist interested in broadening their perspectives to include observational Polar science.
