The PhD candidate will be part of an interdisciplinary team at Lund University (7 PIs and 4 new PhD students) who over the next 6 years will collaborate to investigate the sublethal effects of commonly used pesticides in different species of insects. The project is highly interdisciplinary, involving research in fields such as analytical chemistry, genetics, metabolomics, ecology, and physiology, including collaborative laboratory, field and semi-field studies. Chemical insecticides play an integral role in controlling agricultural pests, however, their sublethal consequences for non-target species are often overlooked. Most of these pesticides are neurotoxins, yet how they affect the brain and its function in diverse insect species is poorly understood.

(03) PhD Degree – Fully Funded
PhD position summary/title: Doctoral student in Solid Mechanics with focus on modeling of microstructure mechanics in metal foams
The position as doctoral student is part of a new research project which is funded by a Röntgen-Ångström Cluster grant through the Swedish Science Council (VR). The project involves collaboration with partners at Ulm university in Germany and at Malmö university in Sweden. The partners in Ulm and Malmö will focus on experimental analysis of metal foams and the PhD student in Lund will focus on numerical modeling of microstructure mechanics in metal foams. The simulation part of the project work will be founded on numerical modeling and simulation based on finite element, finite difference or spectral methods, for example by crystal plasticity and phase field crystal modeling. To succeed in the project, the doctoral student will have to develop and implement her/his own numerical simulation tools. Collaboration with project partners and fellow PhD students in Ulm and Malmö will be part of the project as well as participation in the experimental tasks, both at local laboratories and at large-scale synchrotron facilities.

PhD position summary/title: Doctoral student in Analytical chemistry with a focus on landscape ecotoxicology
The aim of the PhD project is to develop new analytical methods to detect, identify, and quantify pesticides in insects, insect brains, and other relevant samples collected from pesticide high-risk landscapes. Also, lab-raised insects exposed to pesticides will be studied. Synergies across disciplines will allow identification of pesticide high-risk agricultural landscapes, as well as to achieve a sub-brain resolution analysis. The research group “Integrative Medicine Proteomics” (IMP) develops proteomics techniques to introduce precision medicine strategies in sepsis and to study how circulating antibodies evolve after an infection or after vaccination. The research group works closely with BioMS, a national research infrastructure in biological mass spectrometry, and has access to several modern mass spectrometers such as Oribitraps and TiMS-TOFs. Lund University is a prestigious university in Sweden and one of northern Europe’s oldest universities. The university is located in the city of Lund in the province of Scania, Sweden. It traces its roots back to 1425, when a Franciscan studium generale was founded in Lund.
