(03) Postdoctoral Position

Postdoctoral position summary/title: Research Fellow in Structural Molecular Biology

We are looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral research fellow to join a team of researchers investigating the structural basis of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, an inherited heart disease that affects more than 1 in 500 people. Most mutations resulting in disease are found in either β-cardiac myosin heavy chain or cardiac myosin-binding protein-C (cMyBP-C) yet the link between mutation and disease outcome is poorly characterised. By use of an integrative structural biology approach this research project will unravel structural-functional relationships between β-cardiac myosin and cMyBP-C and the impact of disease mutation on those relationships.

(05) Postdoctoral Position

Postdoctoral position summary/title: Research Fellow in Applied Mathematics (Mathematical Biology, Statistical Physics)

We are looking for a Research Fellow to join our EPSRC-NSF funded project DMS-EPSRC Eco-Evolutionary Dynamics of Fluctuating Populations, led by Dr Mauro Mobilia (University of Leeds) in collaboration with Professors Alastair Rucklidge (University of Leeds), Uwe Täuber and Michel Pleimling (both at Virginia Tech, USA). Population dynamics traditionally ignores fluctuations and considers static and homogeneous environments. As part of this project, you will investigate the eco-evolutionary dynamics of fluctuating populations shaped by the coupling of demographic noise, arising from random birth and death events, and environmental variability. This is particularly relevant to understand the evolution of antimicrobial resistance.

(10) Postdoctoral Position

Postdoctoral position summary/title: Research Fellow in Computational Biophysics.

This new and exciting position is funded by the British Heart Foundation and will enable us to extend our studies on the newly discovered Piezo1 mechanosensitive channel. Piezo1 channel is a critical mechanical sensor in endothelial cells, red blood cells and other cell types such as cardiac fibroblasts. Mutations on Piezo1 have been shown to result in a number of cardiovascular diseases. Building a detailed molecular and dynamic understanding of Piezo1, which will complement the available structural and functional data, will fill an important gap in our understanding of the function of this biologically important channel.
