Join the Hasel Lab as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Edinburgh Centre for Discovery Brain Sciences and UK Dementia Research Institute (see https://ukdri.ac.uk/about-us) to explore how astrocytes at the borders of the brain contribute to brain function and dysfunction in disease.

The postdoc’s primary responsibility will be to conduct research, both interfacing with the themes above and developing their own independent research program. The postdoc will also interact with a vibrant research community comprising other postdocs, graduate students, and senior staff from the Hodge Institute and Edinburgh Mathematical Physics Group. There are optional opportunities to co-supervise postgraduate research and to organise advanced undergraduate or postgraduate courses.

We are seeking to recruit a post-doctoral immunologist for a project analysing the parameters associated with the success/failure of vaccines in inducing protective CD8+ T-cell responses. The project is a collaboration between The Roslin and Earlham Institutes that will be applying integrated immunological profiling and transcriptomic analyses (single-cell and bulk RNASeq) to a novel model to address this fundamental immunological problem. The post-holder will be required to have experience in a range of immunological skills, basic bioinformatics and working in veterinary model species (preferably cattle).

A Postdoctoral Research Associate position in algal engineering biology is available in the laboratory of Prof. Alistair McCormick at the School of Biological Sciences, University of Edinburgh. You should have experience in immunophenotyping, including proficiency in flow cytometry, staining, and conducting functional assays. We are looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to pursue goals on our CRUK funded Biology to Prevention Project award. The project and PI team will provide resource and support for you to develop a novel transgenic model system in zebrafish, aimed at inducing somatic mutations with precise temporal control to model the earliest events of tumour initiation. The bioinformatician on the team will facilitate you to perform single-cell-Omics analysis to capture cellular state changes triggered by the mutation as well as environmental factors, thus potentially addressing the key question in cancer biology: How cells carrying oncogenic mutation transition toward a tumour initiating state.  This is an opportunity to contribute to the research community focused on tumour initiation for better cancer prevention and early detection. This is also an opportunity to launch your own career by pioneering a model system with a key aim in mind but also pertains to broader impact in the zebrafish disease modelling field. 

The Roslin Institute of the University of Edinburgh is offering a postdoctoral position in the group of Prof Mike McGrew, one of the leading labs in genome editing technologies in bird species. This position is funded as part of an institution collaboration with a world leading poultry genetics company and the BBSRC. The project is to develop multiplex genome editing technology of chicken stem cells for the production of genome edited chicken. This project will advance the frontiers of genome editing in avian species by developing protocols to create multiple genetic changes in the genome of chicken.

The post-holder will be involved in the design of CRISPR/Cas9 experiments and reagents through to the analysis of genome edited chicken. Applicants should have PhD in Biological Science or related subject. The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated and proactive individual with strong skills in either in genome editing of mammalian stem cells, chicken stem cells and use of DNA editing reagents. Expertise in micromanipulation of chicken embryos would also be useful. In addition, bioinformatics skills that could be applied to the analysis post editing cell/animal genome integrity using DNAseq data would be useful but training could be provided. 

The applicant will complete high quality original research and will disseminate the data in refereed papers, presentations and conference abstracts. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work as part of a team as well as semi-independently are important, as the successful applicant will need to communicate their findings to stakeholders and industrial partners.
