PhD position summary/title: PhD Position in Strategy and Innovation
Firms that are consistently successful exhibit a capability the literature calls ambidexterity: the ability to be successful in the current business environment and associated technologies, while ensuring viability in temporarily or spatially more distal business environments and/or technologies. Often these elements consist of opposing logics. However, they also create a paradox for pursuing organizations, in that, while opposed, they also provide synergetic potential. For instance, learning from radically new technological domains can have a significant impact on existing technological domains, as insights from these technologies can extend the life-cycle of existing domains and postpone their obsolescence.

PhD position summary/title: PhD in Cyclic Proofs for Modal and Higher-order Logic
Do you have the technical skills and the scientific interest to conduct cutting-edge research in logic? We are looking for a PhD candidate for the research project Cyclic Proofs for Modal and Higher-order Logic.
Proofs are a central tool in mathematics and a core concept in the study of formal reasoning. Traditionally, a proof is conceived as a finite object which is used to certify the correctness of our mathematical structures and their properties. Less common are so called cyclic proofs which, although infinitary, exhibit periodic patterns. Cyclic proof systems have proven to be a remarkably useful alternative in the mathematical study of computational systems, particularly in connection with algorithms, databases and programs.

PhD position summary/title: PhD Position in Laser-induced Damage
The Institute of Physics (IoP) of the University of Amsterdam (UvA) and the Advanced Research Center for Nanolithography (ARCNL) have an opening for a fully funded PhD position.
Materials exposed to light inevitably suffer from optical damage when the light fluence keeps increasing. When using lasers as light sources, damage can take different forms, ranging from a reasonably gentle separation of layers of different materials (delamination), to violent and explosive removal of material, crater formation and even the creation of a plasma. We study these processes on time scales ranging from femtoseconds to seconds. We are seeking a PhD candidate who is interested in interdisciplinary research into the mechanisms behind light-induced damage in materials used in nanolithography.

PhD position summary/title: PhD Position in Experimental Soft Matter
Aim of the PhD project is to investigate the micromechanics of ‘superlubric’ particle suspensions for novel lubricants. Superlubricity is a newly discovered mechanism of ultralow friction due to atomic lattice misfit between clean, flat, rigid crystalline surfaces. We will investigate the rheology and contact mechanics of superlubric colloidal particles to elucidate their contact network and flow instabilities. The project is part of the European project SSLiP (Scaling-up SuperLubricity into Persistence), involving seven partners.
